Sources: Bobby Petrino out as coach (1915hrs CST News Conference)

Bobby Petrino will not return as head football coach at Arkansas, multiples sources have told ESPN.com's Chris Low.

The university has called an 8:15 p.m. ET press conference at which time athletic director Jeff Long will announce Petrino will not be back.

The 51-year-old Petrino was put on paid leave last week after he didn't tell his boss right away that a 25-year-old female football program employee was riding with him during an April 1 motorcycle crash. Petrino, who is married with four children, also admitted to an inappropriate relationship.

Also on Monday, a person familiar with the investigation confirmed to The Associated Press that Petrino's "previous inappropriate relationship" was with Jessica Dorrell, the former Arkansas volleyball player with whom Petrino was riding with during his motorcycle crash on a rural two-lane road southeast of Fayetteville.

Petrino was noticeably vague in the wording about the relationship in his statement last Thursday, and the person spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Long said in a late-night news conference Thursday that he didn't hear about the 25-year-old Dorrell until Petrino called him that afternoon, minutes before a police report was released that disclosed her presence at the accident.

Dorrell, who did not return a call seeking comment, was hired March 28 by Petrino as the student-athlete development coordinator after serving as a fundraiser with the Razorback Foundation. She is in charge of organizing the recruiting process for the football team, including initial eligibility for each incoming player.

Ark State coach went to Old Miss.

This is a lousy time to be looking for a coach. Someone correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t this mean every player can transfer without having to sit out a year? I do know this is going to cost some recruits. Then again, Arkansas wasn’t even in the top 25 in recruiting. But Saban and Miles will certainly be looking at hog players.

The new Arkansas State coach is Gus Malzahn who coached at Arkansas under Houston Nutt and left the OC job at Auburn after tis past season. My guess is that Arky will find an interim coach for this season and hire Malzahn to coach in 2013.

Players can’t transfer without penalty if a coach leaves. They can only do that in the case of NCAA probation. Furthermore if they transfer within the SEC they have to sit two years unless Arkansas waives the rule.

Houston Nutt left and there was no NCAA violation. Mitch Mustain and Williams went to SC and did not have to sit out a year. Same thing with some Texas Tech players after Mike Leach was fired. It may be only those players with 3 years eligibility remaining who can transfer.

Now you really got me torn. Born and reaised in Arkansas and a big hog fan. Went to Baylor so I’m a big bear fan. But, Art Briles would be a great fit. He loves to sling it and Tyler Wilson is his guy of guy.

University of Southern California (2007-2010)

Mustain enrolled at the University of Southern California (USC) on May 21, 2007.[17] He joined his former Springdale High School and Arkansas teammate, Damian Williams, who had transferred to USC the previous January. Mustain found the West Coast offense run at USC to be appealing, it differed from the spread offense run by Malzahn and appealed to his quarterback playing style.[2]

Under NCAA transfer rules, Mustain sat out the 2007 season and served as the quarterback for the scout team. On December 19, 2007, he was rewarded with the Service Team Player of the Year (offense) award at the Trojan football team's annual awards banquet.[18]

Mustain became eligible to play again for the 2008 season, with three years of eligibility remaining.

I guess I wasn’t paying attention to Mustain sitting out a year because SC wasn’t intimidated by his mommy.

Then why didnt you put the other posts after mine in chat today? Looks like a half dozen you missed. Just search for "arkansas" and/or "Patrino".

Also, Please tell jimrob to remove the word "sports" from the culture/society tab, that way it( which I contribute to monthly) doesnt seem unfair and inconsistent.

Thanks. BTW Jim, I'll be in Fresno July for a meeting if you want to grab bfast.

Yeah, they're called facts. You don't lie and mislead your employer. Usually that's worse than the crime. It ultimately led to his termination.

I don't follow sports, so maybe I'm missing something, but since when do you have to report who you're sleeping with, riding with, having lunch with, etc to your employer?

If you are in a position of authority (you may be unfamiliar with that) you have to disclose certain things to your employer. (1) Such as when hiring somebody and you are part of the hiring process, you need to disclose you are boinking candidate B. (2) When you report to your employer that you are unable to come to work because you’ve been in an accident, don’t leave out the part where another employee was with you. In other words, don’t lie and say you were by yourself when you were not. (3) IF your contract has a “morals clause” in it basically anything you do that might put your employer in a bad public light is grounds for termination.
