There is just a week to go until Google controversially changes its privacy policy to allow it to gather, store and use personal information about its users. But there is one way to stymie the web giant's attempts to build a permanent profile of you that could include personal information including age, gender, locality and even sexuality. From March 1, you won't be able to opt out of the new policy, which has been criticised by privacy campaigners who have filed a complaint to U.S. regulators.
But before that date you can delete your browsing history and, which will limit the extent to which Google records your every move - including your embarrasing secrets. Here's how:

What if you didn’t have an account, just used their search engine?

Usually I add www.scroogle.org as a good non google search site, but, google or someone got them.

Then they’ll just be able to track you by your IP address, which would take legal action to link to you, personally. But it wouldn’t stop them from sending ads to your IP address, for example.

It says sign into your Google account. I used Google in years past to search, but nothing else. So how do I have a Google account if I have no memory of ever having an account?
Is there a way to erase ones search history, without having had an account? Its the principle of the thing that bugs me.

I “opted out” of Google long ago. I use the Ixquick search engine which at least claims to keep or disseminate no info at all about users.
IXQuick.com and StartPage.com are now my two search engines of choice. And if you really want results from Google, StartPage gets that for you anyway...

In Firefox under options check the advanced tab. In the general tab there’s a box to uncheck “Search for text when I start typing”
Under Privacy there are boxes to uncheck.
I don’t know if this will help you, or if you have done this already.
If you do NOT have a Youtube account, you are one of the lucky ones...
There are some sites which require either Yahoo, Disqus and or Google (blogger, Youtube) names to enter each sites forums if you want to make a post or comment.
The best example is if you have a Youtube account, then automatically...you have a Google account.
If you don’t sign in, Google will track your searches via the computer’s IP address. The only way to clear your personal history is by signing in.

Wonder how they do that when your IP changes every time you log on. Good luck goo gle. Seriously, it’s not rocket science to circumvent goo gle.
They can’t track your IP if you hide it and they also can’t track an Ip unless it’s a static IP. Many are shared by you and many other people. I find goo gle comical. Sometimes when I hide my IP they won’t let me search. They want me to type in the code. I just change it to another search engine when they do that. Also, use Bing or even better startpage and tell goo gle to kya.
You don’t have to have a goo gle account to view You Tube. If you want to comment or upload videos, then, yes you do. SO if that is the case, make up a fake yahoo, aol or whoever email address and use it for nothing except to get the account. Hide your IP while you make the account and every time after that. Change your IP frequently. Right now when I click on Goo gle it shows I am in Austin Texas. I can assure you I’m far away from there.

I think a better approach is to break the bond between the free email accounts you might have and the search engine you use. I don't generally care if my searches are tracked per se, but when they can be tied to me personally I lose the warm fuzzies. I think a Hotmail or Yahoo email account with Google searches is better than GMail and IXQuick. IMHO of course...
