It's jobs week in America.
Yesterday, ADP told us that US companies added 170k jobs in January. Today, Challenger Gray tells us about job cuts and the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) tells us about initial unemployment claims. Tomorrow we get the official BLS nonfarm payroll and unemployment rate figures through January 2012.
But all of this week's jobs data is short term in scope.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics just published it's employment projections for 2010 to 2020, which includes a list of the 30 jobs that will grow fastest through 2020.
Eleven of the 30 jobs require a bachelor's degree or higher. Also, four of the top five fastest growing jobs require less than a high school degree.
We ranked the jobs based on percentage growth from 2010 to 2020. We also include the number of jobs to be added during that period as well as the typical education needed to get the job.

Pile drivers? Is this a joke? Many of these are crappy jobs. Most don’t even exist in my area because of Obama.. the growth jobs are STEM(science, technology, engineering, and math.). Like we need more therapists...
Looks like if you can stack bricks or provide therapy, you are golden.

Well, tell that to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics. They’re the source for this list.

Hey Barney.......Barney Frank.....pick up the phone...
Got a hot "job" for you
Looks like ZOT Administrators to me.
Brickmasons and stonemasons?
That one is interesting. I have always had the impression that some of these types of hard-labor jobs are still needed and people shy away from them. Which is why most of the ones out there today are immigrants.
I just looked at the linked article. Whoever did the graphics, I think, is an idiot. The attempt at humor is gross. And what’s wrong with physical therapists helping elderly Asian men?
Federal Grocery Bag Inspectors.
Some of these are construction jobs that don’t exist. And do you know how many social work and psychology majors that are waiting tables? I don’t see RN’s on the list either..
Government Windmill Factory worker.
Only 11 out of the 30 are in wealth-creating industries.
Actually, if the country continues to spiral downward, I think therapists are going to be in high demand, especially those who are willing to work off the grid, so to speak. (No attachment to insurance companies, accepting only cash, willing to charge less for their services, and even willing to accept non-cash payment.)
Americans have absolutely no concept or experience with living in traumatic and difficult times, and it’s just that type of life that leads to more divorce, abuse of all kinds, child abandonment, etc. I would love to become a counselor just for times like these but I can’t see myself going back to school for a Masters.
They forgot Ph.D’s with a dissertation in Hip Hop and a professorship teaching rap? It even got Lamont Hill a part-time night gig on O’Reiley’s FACTOR.
Im back in school at 41 for a Masters. Quite a challenge!
UAW/government assembly line employee on the Chevy Volt line. Just kidding.
Democrat party thief.
