Actually, Alpha just gave me the right answer of 6/13 .
That’s even using the link you provided right there.

I think Wolfram Alpha is using the input and wrongly utilizing them as two separate equations, and solving them simultaneously. Hint: the two lines on the graph.
I guess the software cannot take in an input in the format we humans are accustomed to.

You made an error here:
4*4 - 5*4*x = 6x + 4
6x - 5*4*x = 4 - 4*4
You moved the 6x to the left without changing its sign. It should have been -6x.

If Obama says it does, it does.
Don’t argue.

Your second line is all messed up.
Re arrange is fine - but you should get -
-6X-5*4*X = 4-4*4
-26X = -12
X= 6/13
To: Black_Shark
What do you end with if you divide both sides by 4 to start?

Thanks again FReepers!!!! The packet is WRONG and everyone involved was taking it a face value. She's really a great teacher and super good with the kids she deals with. (it's a alternative/on-line program)
Just wanted to sanity check what I was coming up with as well!
Cheers!

Check the original equation.
x=10/7 if -4(4-5x)=6x+4, otherwise x=6/13

Unfortunately, yes.
The new calculators will even give you the number in its fractional form.
Absolutely no understanding needed in learning math these days.

6/13 or .4615384615 is correct, or approximately the amount of U.S. citizenship held by Barry Soetoro.
Tell your teacher. I’m sure you’ll receive extra credit.

4 [4 - 5x] = 6x + 4
16 - 20x = 6x + 4
16 - 20x - 16 = 6x + 4 - 16
-20x = 6x + 4 - 16
-20x = 6x - 12
-20x - 6x = 6x - 12 - 6x
-26x = -12
-26x/-26 = -12/-26
x = -12/-26
x = -6/13

If you ever want to check, plug the answer into the original equation.
6/13 is the correct answer.
To: The SISU kid
Post 2 is correct, x=6/13
