It's not OK when your 40.
You didn’t do anything. He did. Do not beat yourself up over it. I basically believe that RP will have an “i” as his middle initial. He hasn’t a chance. He is however a great comedic relief during the debates.
He has a good foundation and will come around. Paul is extremely popular with young people and it’s easy to understand when you look at his generation.
His views will continue to evolve as he grows older and more experienced. I know mine did.
Sorry, I should have proof read first.
Could you be more specific, please - “the whole enchilada”?
Ron Paul’s biggest gap in reality [in my view] is his statement that George Bush was giddy over the attacks of 9/11 so he could attack Iraq.
He’s 19—got a lot of growing up left to do. Don’t worry about it—between your teaching and Hillsdale, he’ll come back to reality soon. He’s wasting his vote (I hope), but he will see the error of his ways one day soon.
If I were you, I’d drop the subject and just enjoy having him home for the holidays. (He may just be pulling your chain, BTW.)
All is not lost. I voted for Mondale/Ferraro
At least he didn’t come home and accidentally share his MJ stash with the dogs (a case I witnessed yesterday at the dog ER).
Not a Ron Paul fan myself but I do see Paul as a reaction to a serious problem we have with our government in this country.
Rather than argue about Ron Paul I would seek points of agreement on what the problems are and take it from there.
Once he gets a job, pays taxes, and his a place of his own it wouldn’t be surprising if his political views changed again.
College fosters a rather permissive attitude that doesn’t exist in the real world.
Don’t worry about it. Embrace him for having views and beliefs. Let him know that it’s ok to disagree, and actually, it can be fun. Make sure he understands that it will never come between the two of you. Disagreeing is what challenges us to rethink our own positions and become able to expand and grow. Life, and the world, would be, oh, so boring if we all agreed.
You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink? Sure. But when he sees you drinking all the time, soon he will realized that he’s parched and needs a drink, too.
He’ll come around. And if he doesn’t, just be happy that he’s not Kucinich Koo-Koo, or an 0bama worshiper.
THere are worse things than being a RP fanatic.
An Obamatron, for example.
I have a (20-something) nephew who is a flaming liberal.
Brainwashed in college. He thinks Obama hung the moon, yet cannot articulate a damn thing Obama has accomplished for the improvement of this country.
Would LOVE it if he announced he supported Paul.

I wouldn’t sweat it. He’s a kid. Heck, I voted for Perot in my first election.
He’s not lost. He is strong enough to formulate his own opinions and you have given him a solid base from which to start. You should be proud.
Show respect for his position and (most important, in my experience) continue the dialog. If you can, help him think without telling him what to think.
And who knows ... you might learn something. ;)
Who is the girl?
Love him, he’ll grow.
I voted for George McGovern when I was 18. Carter when I was 22. Reagan man ever since, much to the dismay of my father. :-)
The GOP destroyed him. Tell voters they are conservative and used them like condoms. Come to power and acted like big gov statists with taxcuts but huge deficits because they cannot cut gov. Young people also understand how screwed they are. Forced to pay for Soc Security and knowing it will be bankrupted before they can even get any. Now with Wall Street implosion (another institution that GOP have great trust and faith in) and older people cannot retire (thus young ones cannot get jobs or even promotions for at least a decade). GOP tries to blame Dems but they themselves were asleep at the switch when Wall Street invented liar loans and sold them off as AAA mortgage backed securities. Dem and GOP ignored warnings and were enamored by Wall Street bank lobbyists. Ron Paul had been warning about bankers, huge gov spending and deficits, the Fed Reserve which serves bankers and not US, failure of SEC etc etc. Can you blame him for accepting Ron Paul (even if his foreign policy viewpoints are wrong)??? 2012 and the years to come will be a great challenge to this nation as a young generation will stagnate for ten years minimum before the economy picks up and expands. We will have a lost generation especially the ones who went to college, accumulated tuition debt and graduated with useless diplomas. Like it or not, this will have an impact on the future generations’ attitude towards Wall Street, government and the two major political parties.
