Is anybody else out there also fascinated by the many videos of North Koreans weeping uncontrollably over the death of Kim Jong-il? I can't get enough of watching them. They are both quite fascinating and unintentionally HILARIOUS due to the over the top grieving.
Rush Limbaugh today aptly noted that these mourners look quite well fed, which in a nation where the vast majority are starving, means they are the One Percenters of North Korea aka ruling party members.
So how real is the grief? Well, they HAVE to show over the top grief or be tossed out of the party which means they starve since they would get the same paltry rations as the the masses. Having just come back from a Chinese Seafood Buffet where I slurped down a couple of dozen oysters I can surely sympathize with them. Threaten me with a cutoff of my buffet chow, and I would also be on the ground sobbing my heart out.
One of my favorite North Koreans "mourning" videos is this one: North Koreans weeping hysterically over the death of Kim Jong-il. I really like at the 1 minute mark where the North Korean guy is on all fours pounding the pavement while sobbing hysterically. Another highlight is at about 1:20 where another N. Korean is replicating the performance of the first North Korean.
Oddly enough, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the new feudal ruler, Kim Jong-umph, hasn't shed a tear for Dear Old Daddy. More than likely he is wondering how he can parlay his new position as dictator of North Korea into either a visit to Disney World or the Las Vegas Strip.
Reading the article, I think I came up with a great new product.
North Korea Chow.
Pack it full of vitamins and nutrients and maybe the average people will finally get strong enough to start overthrowing the NK commie leadership.
He will have to wait until General Ri Chan Bok is purged...or liquidated. Remember, Junior, you will NOT be safe until General Ri Chan Bok is eliminated. It's you or him. Do it quick or no Disneyworld or Las Vegas Strip for you. In fact, if you don't get rid of him it won't be any strip of earth for you on the planet except for the small strip over your grave.
I wonder if Kim Jong-umph wakes up tomorrow and says, “Hey, I am absolute ruler of North Korea so does this mean I don’t have to wear this terrible whitewall haircut any more?”
He never looked better to me than he does right now.

They even had mental health counseling sessions for the grieving teenyboppers crying over that drug addict's suicide.
I was a military intel officer stationed in South Korea in the early 1990s. At Panmunjom, each side utilizes MPs who are physically large and intimidating, for psychological reasons. Most of the Americans I saw were 6’2” or taller, and looked like they could play middle line backer in the NFL. Most of the ROK guards were strapping specimens, too. Not quite a large as their U.S. counterparts, but very big by South Korean standards. By comparison, the “monsters” from the DPRK were a good 4-5 inches shorter (or more) than the ROK MPs and at least 40 pounds lighter. The Norks tried to bulk their guys up before sending them to Panmunjom, but you couldn’t overcome years of malnutrition in a matter of months.
Today, the average South Korean is a head taller and 40 pounds heavier than the typical North Korea. It’s also become more difficult for the Norks to train agents to blend in among the South Korean populace. No only is there the “size” factor, they must also deal with a language issue. Thanks to international travel and exposure to other cultures/languages, the South Korean dialect is decidedly different than the standard North Korean dialect.
Starving your people for 50 years (and keeping them in isolation) has real consequences.
Okay, here is a speculative question for everyone: If you could Quantum Leap into the body of Kim Jong-umph, what would you do? You obviously couldn’t announce that you wanted North Korea to go to capitalist freedom right away or the generals would bump you off. What I would do is get rid of the generals one by one by declaring that this one or that one did not display the proper grief for Dear Old Dad so they would have to be liquidated. That would be just to get rid of the opposition. Then I would declare that the hottest chicks of North Korea would have to grieve with me in private one by one. The latter would not be for any political or tactical reasons. It would just be ME taking advantage of the Quantum Leap opportunity.
I was stationed in SK and looked over the border at people looking at me from NK with some regularity.
I’ve seen the same look of insane hatred and anger from jihadis.
The Norks have been in a closed society and fed essentially religious dogma about their leaders for almost 3 generations. Before that, they were tightly wound.
I have zero doubt that most of the displays you see are genuine.

It is funny but also sad. Sad that is where the Kim family is revered and worshiped as if they are God but are false God. Considering they don’t worship the true God, they are in some very heavy bondage though !
Nope they think the 50s bouffont elvis-style helmet head look is what makes the leader look cool. They watch Happy Days. They know what’s hip and what’s square.

Man, you can only take so much of the weaping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth.
What’s crazy is that the NK state media publishes this stuff, and I’m sure they earnestly think that it is somehow believable... That it is credible proof of genuine affection on the part of the NK people. They apparently believe their own propaganda.
They have to put on the mourning....when Kim’s father died people lost their life for not doing so. What we’re seeing is mass hysteria out of fear of death if not projected.
I might be FORCED to do this fake weeping routine starting next week because my wife is FORCING me to visit Venezuela for 10 days. If Chavez kicks the bucket, I might find myself in the same situation as those North Koreans. Of course, I would be LMAO and laughing hysterically in a way to make it appear to be grief.
The oldsters likely do...they've been under this regime for decades...but the younger people do so out of fear...if you don't weep and wail your shot or sent to camp and it's your own relatives who turn you in. Their system is set up that even your own family can and will turn on you....if you are caught doing something against the regime..or defect and caught your family up to three generations can and do get sent to their gulogs.
Soooooo...tell me why you wouldn't be crying and wailing in the streets under those circumstances?

Strangely believe it the young English speaking South Koreans interviewed on Fox to comment on the successor were trim.
