Take a ride to Clifton NJ, about 20 minutes from the tunnel and just off Rt. 3. The owners name is Jeff and he will answer all your questions.

Click on the ‘Silver Specials’ @
http://www.cmi-gold-silver.com/

Shop around local and on the net, checking to see what the price spread is between real time spot price(s) and your actual buying price in real time. Half a bag ($500 face value) of junk silver coins would probably be your cheapest way in to start.

Just so you can get familiar with the lingo...
http://www.amergold.com/vault/junkUSsilvercoins.php

Acquired what I thought was needed for an emergency back at the $4.50 level but if I were buying today, I wouldn’t. I would wait until around February ‘12, hoping for a big price correction to end in all precious metals before they begin to rise again to prices that will put your hair on fire as the banking system begins imploding on itself.

You can always leg in, a bit at a time, until you get use to buying from vendors. And you can always sell it back, hopefully for more than what you paid for it.

Then I might buy a dividend paying (silver) miner, like HL, get the stock certificates in my name and possession to have and to hold. Tell them where to send the dividend checks and you can least make a few cents while waiting, stock might even go up in value. Again, I’d probably wait until around next February to buy mining stocks but you’re the boss here.

There is price deflation in platinum and rhodium right now and you can buy 1 ounce rounds in those also, besides gold itself where I prefer the Krugerrand, it’s a good sturdy coin by design whereas a US mint gold coin is more like a collector’s item where if you drop it or mar it, value goes down (gold is soft and malleable).

Silver rounds from the US mint are selling like hotcakes, so you are not the only one interested.

I’d probably buy what earlier posters referred to as “junk” silver coins (pre-64). They’re actually 90% silver, but universally recognized, and have the added advantage of small denomination. I’d buy from Apmex again. They’re fine to deal with. Of course, if you want absolutely no paper trail then you should probably pay cash at a local coin shop. Hope this helps!

I feel the best buy is gold or silver American Eagles. If you buy bars and “commemoritives” you may have to have them verified before they will be accepted, however, the Govt. issued coins will be accepted without asssay.

I like the idea of older silver dollars and halves. Some should be UC collectibles while others could be just decent date legible Peace dollars or Morgans.

In Gold I like the U.S. Indian Heads for amounts of less than an ounce because they are such handsome coins and great pieces of Americana. For hefty one ounce gold coins I like Canadian Maple Leafs (new) and U.S. $20 face (old). Remember that collector's value over and above the melt value is tricky to master but deal with big legit outfits like Southern Coin in Atlanta. Also using coins as barter items will be easier if...

1. The coin is attractive and well-struck.
2. The coin shows natural aging and looks unmistakably authentic.

Which clip are you talking about?

Last I saw she was making the circuit ranting about the MF Global collapse and how that shows the rule of law is no longer in effect with regard to futures trading.

You could buy a decent metal detector and have fun building your silver and gold collection.

Please forgive me for unsolicited advice, but judging from the tenor of your writing, and your typos, you need to take a deep breath.

You’re doing great with what you’ve accomplished already.

I have an agreement with a number of local banks, where they save any silver coins they find and I stop by once a week and trade them coin for coin for this silver. On an average week, I'll get 2-3 quarters and 7-8 dimes. On rare occasions, they'll have silver dollars and/or halves.

This is in a town of 20,000, so I'd imagine that banks in NYC would probably have a great deal more silver pass through their doors.

I have a close relative who worked a retail cash register for years. At the end of her shift she’d go through the change and find the “real” coins for me. Over the years she pulled quite a haul.

As a result we’ve now got darned near 2 pounds of “junk” coinage around the house. That’s in addition to the rounds and bullion I picked up back when the price of the stuff wasn’t absolutely insane.
