I have a close relative who worked a retail cash register for years. At the end of her shift she’d go through the change and find the “real” coins for me. Over the years she pulled quite a haul.
As a result we’ve now got darned near 2 pounds of “junk” coinage around the house. That’s in addition to the rounds and bullion I picked up back when the price of the stuff wasn’t absolutely insane.
I work retail and I’ve asked the ladies who run our money room to keep an eye out for me. Just this week I traded for 2 quarters and 5 dimes. Oddly, one of the quarters was a 2007 Utah proof that someone had taken out of a commemorative set.
