Published in Clinical Infectious Diseases and available online, a new report describing the outbreak offers recommendations for prevention, including a stronger message for consumers: Don't eat prepackaged cookie dough before it's baked.

Dr. Neil and colleagues suspected that one of the ingredients used to produce the dough was contaminated...

"Most patients reported eating refrigerated prepackaged Nestle Toll House cookie dough products raw.
"Nestle instituted a voluntary recall, while the FDA and CDC warned consumers not to eat any varieties of prepackaged Nestle Toll House refrigerated cookie dough. They warned that those with products on hand should discard them, rather than cooking them, as consumers might get the bacteria on their hands and on other cooking surfaces."

I’ll admit that I love the stuff. I usually eat one raw and bake the rest.

I usually eat one raw and bake the rest. Once or twice a year, for the past 15 years or so, I've consumed an entire package of the stuff raw, as a special treat. When my daughter was small we'd share one...
I guess we were just lucky.
Yeah, I know it says on the package to not do that. But you understand... :)

You’re not supposed to eat your hamburgers rare, either.
But sometimes they just taste better that way.

hmmm, we may be able to market this differently and make some good profit; “NEW! Cookie dough Weight Loss Program - Guaranteed to work!”

Glad all the raw cookie dough I’ve been eating the past few days (including this morning) was homemade and not the prepackaged stuff.

The military could make big money running weight loss camps.
Really, I would go back for 6 weeks of Basic Training to drop a quick 50 pounds...
Just don’t make me iron my damn underwear.

Eating raw hamburgers from childhood has built up my
immunity from e coli. Longevity is a byproduct. I’ll
be 87 in a few months.

that’s why it’s ‘ready to bake’, and not ‘ready to eat’.

I would like to go through basic training for the exercise only- I'm not big on following orders and getting screamed at.
How about starting your own business, "The Basics: Boot Camp after work".
There are a lot of 9 to 5ers that need it and are probably way fed up (pun) with Weight Watchers meals.

I would make people cry. :)

I learned the hard way if you love cookie dough make it yourself and eat it as soon as possible. The logic is simple prepackaged setting around a long time cookie dough is a perfect environment for bacteria.
