Speeding blamed for pileup involving 8 Ferraris, 1 Lamborghini

YAMAGUCHI
Speeding was fingered as a possible cause Monday of what is believed to be Japans most expensive ever road accident when up to 300 million yen worth of supercars ended up in a crumpled heap on the Chugoku expressway in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture.
Eight Ferraris and a Lamborghiniplus a Toyota Priuswere among the vehicles involved in the crash, which witnesses said happened when a speeding car slid across a wet road surface.
Television footage showed mangled Ferrarismany of them racing redand debris spread over some 400 meters of the east-bound side of the expressway, the main trunk road in southern Honshu.
A pack of about 20 supercars was travelling in convoy on Sunday morning on a stretch of wet highway when the leading Ferrari slid into a guardrail, police said.

That road has some pretty sharp curves for an expressway as it heads up into the mountains from Shimonoseki. Wouldn't be hard to lose it even in a Ferrari if you weren't careful.
This reminds me of the Honda Point Disaster, where seven destroyers in a column formation followed the flagship onto the rocks, and seven others only narrowly avoided the same fate.

A group of cars was doing 140-160 kilometers per hour[.]...The speed limit on that section of the highway was 80 kilometers per hour. How surprising.

This happens all the time in my road rally PC game. Just give it a second and everything will reset itself.

“Plus a Toyota Prius.”
That’s because it was a useless wreck before anyone bought it!

"The Prius and a second Toyota also caught up in the 14-car smash were not thought to be part of the supercar pack."Gee, ya think?

Granted, the insurance companies will surely take a hit, but, as you may know, they only have to pay what the car was worth when it crashed, i.e. the Blue Book or NADA value.
If you owe more in payments than what you'll get for property damage . . . sucks to be you. You're out a car and still have to pay for the one you can't drive anymore.
