I used to have a 33 LP record of Goodman’s Carnegie Hall concert, which I often listened to. In fact, I think I still have it, stashed away somewhere.

Thanks for posting that. I have that song on a 45.

We’ve got the DVD set and (stupidly) I bought it on iTunes, too.
My dad (86 yrs old) particularly loves it when Krupa breaks out singing at one part.
We have a Happy Hour every afternoon at 5pm and play different music while we socialize and sip - the best is the swing music night. Very theraputic!

yikes...white people have no rhythm...always loved the song, though.

Nope. That Trashmen were sued and lost all of the revenues from the recording for copyright infringement. The court allowed them to continue to perform the song and keep live performance revenues, however. (I believe I heard this about 30 years ago)

Here’s an article about Al Frazier of the Rivingtons, who recorded the original version of “Papa Oom Mow Mow,” whose involvement in the rock/R&B scene began in 1949. Interestingly, before they were the Rivingtons—named for Rivington Street in New York City—they were the Crenshaws, probably named for Crenshaw Blvd. in Los Angeles, Frazier’s home town.
