At the time approaching sunsets, especially during the longer days of summer, it is my habit to take a walk. The sky changes before my eyes, the clouds turn varying shades of pink, blue, purple, orange, within minutes. It is gorgeous, like a moving picture. I call friends to tell them ... ‘quick look at the sunset’. It disappears rapidly. Amazing really how beautiful our sunsets are in West Texas. Truly a wondrous beauty that speaks to me of the glory of our God and it is happening on the face of earth every minute of ever day. God travels the whole globe every 24 hours creating sunsets and sun rises, etc. ART indeed. All the while knowing all, being everywhere present, and all powerful ...SOVEREIGN. Hallelujah!

We serve an amazing God.

Our church has an excellent children's choir and they do sing before the congregation and some of the classes as well.

It is up to us to have a cd or dvd or other forms of Christmas music and play it in our homes during Christmas season. Give the grandchildren a cookie reward or some such, if they learn the words to one or more or a few of the songs; and tell them your story of your experience caroling as a joyful time in your youth.

And it was followed with hot chocolate.

Beautiful memories. The gift of hope.

Praise God! What a blessed hope we have in Jesus. This Christmas I am dealing with grief over the loss of my sister and the one FACT that holds me steady is the assurance of eternal life with Our Father.

This makes for a very MERRY CHRISTMAS!

At Sunset

Every day at Sunset, the Angels spill their paint,
Across the largest canvas, and work without complaint.

Although few eyes are watching, and light is fading fast,
They create a marvelous portrait, as if it were going to last.

But this beauty is so fleeting, you have to watch it grow,

And when the light is gone at last,

. . . it will leave you with a glow.

Sunwink

I’ve always loved the sunset,
A bow upon the day,
That’s been wrapped up in lovingness,
All set to put away.

To place among the memories,
Of happy days gone by,
For times when things don’t go so well,
On days that make you cry.

A sunrise is as lovely,
But colder in its way,
More distant in the joyfulness,
That happens every day.

Though lens can’t separate them,
The difference is this,
The sunrise is a promise,
And sunset is a kiss.

My job as a poet is to capture in a memorable and evocative way, the feeling that you are describing.

It's like having the job of deciding which candy tastes best.

What Shall I Give You?

December 9, 2011

I’ve been told that “three-wish stories” occur in almost every culture, all following a similar theme: A benefactor appears and offers to grant three wishes to an unsuspecting beneficiary. The fact that the stories so often occur suggests we all want something we cannot get on our own.

There’s even a “wish story” in the Bible. It happened one night when the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream and said to him, “Ask! What shall I give you?” (1 Kings 3:5). Solomon could have asked for anything—riches, honor, fame, or power. But he asked for none of these things. He requested “an understanding heart” (v.9), or a “hearing heart,” a humble heart to listen and learn from God’s Word. The young, inexperienced king, weighed down with the responsibilities of ruling a vast nation, needed the Lord’s wisdom to govern well.

Am I that wise? If God spoke to me directly and asked what He could do for me, what would I ask for? Would I ask for health, wealth, youth, power, or prestige? Or would I ask for wisdom, holiness, and love? Would I be wise or foolish?

Suppose God asked you what He could give to you. What would you ask for?

True wisdom is in leaning
On Jesus Christ, our Lord;
True wisdom is in trusting
His own life-giving Word. —Anon.

God’s wisdom is given to those who humbly ask Him for it.

Read: 1 Kings 3:1-9

Thanks for this, Conor.

When someone wishes me Happy Holidays, I always say ‘and a Merry Christmas to you’. I usually get a ‘Thank You’ or a ‘Merry Christmas to you too’.

We have to remind those that we meet, that the holiday we are celebrating is the birth of Christ.

Please excuse my brag time .... :)

We went to the Christmas Concert at the local High School last night. The High School band and Choir performed as well as four of the elementary schools that are part of the School District. It was a wonderful show.

The show started with the combined Beginner Bands playing ‘Jolly Old St. Nicholas’, ‘Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star’ and ‘Jingle Bells’.

I was impressed with the High School Band Director. Some of the people in the audience started whistling and yelling. He told them, this is a concert not an athletic event. You may clap or applaud but no whistling or yelling.

The choirs from the 4 Elementary school then sang 3 songs ... Kyrie Gregorianus, Who Would Imagine A King and Winter Fantasy. For Who Would Imagine, they had 3 soloists and Marissa was the first. She did an excellent job! (I was so proud of her!) I will try to get something uploaded this weekend. The bands from the Elementary schools played 3 more songs including ‘Little Drummer Boy’.

The High School Band and Choir was exceptional. There were 4 young men in the choir ... they all wore Tux and the young ladies wore long black dresses.

The audience was invited to sing along with the Christmas Finale. I did say CHRISTMAS!! We sang Joy to the World, It Came Upon a Midnight Clear and O Come all Ye Faithful.

Since we did an inter-district transfer to get Marissa into a different school, I have been torn about which High School she should attend. After watching last night’s Christmas Program, I made the decision that she would continue High School in this District.

Marissa does not attend church at the same church that has her AWANA Club meeting. After the Concert, the Pastor from the AWANA Church went up to Marissa and congratulated her on her solo. He told her that he had no idea that she had such a lovely voice.

There is hope for the younger generation.

Merry Christmas to All.

Thank you, Meg.

I found the perfect dress! She is into black right now ... the dress is black with a grey overskirt. I also bought her a new pair of shoes ... back with grey accents with a short heel. When she saw them, she just ‘Ohhhhh’d. She gave me a big hug .. then asked if she could wear gray eye shadow. I said yes and gave her some light red lipstick. After blotting most of the lipstick off, she looked beautiful. Can you tell that I am proud?

We surprised her with a bouquet after the concert. I think she felt like a princess.

LOL ... Sorry to ramble.
