I've been good, thanks for asking. My wonderful DH has been home about 3.5 weeks now ~ safe and sound after his 8th (and final) deployment to Iraq! Woo Hooo! Of course, his deployments are done ... next year he's on calendar for Afghanistan. (Then I suppose I'll just start counting those deployments, right?) Anyway, he's happy to be home and back at work where he's up to his ears in paperwork and glitches involving pay, orders, etc. Oh, and his annual PT (physical training test) is Friday, December 9 ... please keep that (and his run) in your prayers, for those so inclined!

Our kitties are generally doing fine. After 8 straight months of fostering kittens (about 30), it seems so peaceful and quiet around here with just OUR kitty crew. Of course, Gracie (she's an 11-year-old black and white Maine Coon girl) managed to catch ringworm (it's a fungus) from the last batch of kittens, so she's being treated for that and is in isolation for another 6 weeks or so. She gets a cream on her ear, she's taking an oral med, and she goes once a week to the vet for a lime/sulphur dip. Who knew ringworm was so complicated, huh?

We had a quiet Thanksgiving ~ we went over to some friends house and there were just 6 of us, which was nice. (We don't "do" family holidays, so it's always nice when someone adopts us and feeds us turkey!) Our Thanksgiving tradition is to take about 10 loaves of bread and a 40 pound sack of feed and hit a local pond+park to feed the ducks, geese, Canada gees, wood ducks and coots. As always, that's fun.

On the home front, we've decided to tear out the carpeting in one of our rooms (sort of a den) and replace it with vinyl flooring that LOOKS like hardwood, but isn't. We keep a lot of cats in there, and life will just be easier with flooring that can hold up to cats, cleaning, disinfectants, moisture, etc. We will move furniture this weekend, since they're coming bright and early on Monday morning. The biggest hassle will be figuring out where to stash the 3 cats that normally live in there ... but they should be fine on our enclosed patio ("Catio") with their heated pet beds for a few hours, I'm sure.

Sounds like things are going good for you and hubby. Prayers will be for him and you for this coming year. Added ones for his upcoming tests and his health. I suppose when a pilot gets orders...he goes where needed. Give him a big hug and thank him again for his service.

I knew you fostered but that's a lot of kitties! Sorry to hear about the ringworm...I've heard it's very trying to get rid of.

I think the 3 will do just fine when they have to spend time in the catio...it looks more comfy than a lot of peoples livingrooms....lol.

Are you still biking all those miles? Your dedication was/is to be admired. And the weight loss was amazing!

Perhaps we'll see you around more! *hugs*

Advent Themes

December 1, 2011

I believe that all Scripture is related and all Scripture is relevant. Nevertheless, I was surprised when my November reading in the book of 1 Peter touched on all four themes of Advent—that period of time on the church calendar when many Christians prepare to celebrate the first coming of Christ while looking forward to His second coming. During Advent, we emphasize hope, peace, joy, and love, which God sent with Christ.

HOPE. We have an inheritance reserved in heaven, a living hope through the resurrection of Christ from the dead (1 Peter 1:3-5).

PEACE. We will love life and see good days if we turn from evil and do good and if we seek peace, for the Lord watches over the righteous and hears their prayers (3:10-12).

JOY. We have inexpressible joy even though we have trials because our faith is being tested and proven genuine. The end of this faith is the salvation of our souls (1:6-9).

LOVE. We can love one another with a pure heart because we have been born again through the Word of God which lives and abides forever (1:22-23).

Because Christ came the first time, we can live with hope, peace, joy, and love till He comes again.

The hope we have in Jesus Christ
Brings joy into our heart;
And when we know the love of God,
His peace He will impart. —Sper

If you’re looking for hope, peace, joy, and love this Christmas season, look to God.

Read: 1 Peter 1:3-5,13-21

Rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. —1 Peter 1:13
Bible in a year:

There is a cold front moving in - and we will probably get snow tonight. Flagstaff is expecting two feet of the white stuff, and we are just high enough to get some of it!

There won’t be much sun here today, as that cold front will last for 24 hours.

California had some very high winds last night - over 60 miles an hour. What a mess, with downed trees and over 14,000 without power.

Have a great Thursday - and stay warm!
