How would Peyton look in burgundy and gold?
Let me make clear that I havent spoken with anyone associated with the Colts or Redskins about this, and let me make just as clear that this is not even what you would call a rumor. There are no sources who wish to remain anonymous or reliable sources. No, this is pure speculation. But its speculation that makes sense.
Here is how this could play out:
1) There is a legitimate chance that the Colts will finish with the worst record in the NFL this year. They are playing poorly on both sides of the ball right now, and Mannings absence only explains a small part of that. There is nothing to suggest that this Colts squad is suddenly going to turn things around, and there is no reason for Manning to rush back to try to win a few games for a mostly hapless team this year.
2) If the Colts in fact finish last, they will have a franchise-changing choice to make: to draft consensus first pick Andrew Luck, or to bet on Manning for the next few years and trade the pick for multiple draft choices or players.

As a skins fan I say: the only way to stop Peyton Manning is to put him on the Redskins.
Ain’t gonna happen. He has to officially be a has-been before Snyder will look at him. Wait until he is 39 0r 40.
Well it cuts both ways. Sure Favre should have been a team player and realized he wasn’t getting any younger, but who really wants to train their replacement it blows. And I wouldn’t say Favre stayed a lot longer than he should have, he did manage to get to the conference finals 2 of his last 4 years. Rodgers did handle the situation well, but I can’t blame Favre for much of that. Really if my boss hired somebody and said “here this guy is going to take over all your duties” I wouldn’t teach the dude where the bathrooms are.
If you don’t think Rodgers was mentored you’re nuts. Rodgers was a great college QB, being the second banana to Favre helped turn him into a great NFL QB. Favre didn’t have to be civil to Rodgers to be a great teacher to the understudywaiting in the wings....
But what if you'd had a long and productive career working for a company you loved, and were now nearing the end of said career? You might do it to assure the future success of your beloved employer and for your legacy.
Sorry but every single story that came out of that locker room when they were both there is that Favre didn’t teach Rodgers anything. He didn’t want to have anything to do with his replacement, he didn’t want a QB drafted early, he didn’t want any kind of reminder that his story was drawing to a close. And yeah you do have to be civil to somebody to be a teacher of any quality at all. Call me nuts all you want, the truth has been out there for years, Favre didn’t teach Rodgers anything.
I don't think Rodgers was a very bright study then. He hasn't thrown many interceptions at pivotal moments...
No way. He will retire as a Colt.
Anyone paying attention would be concerned that Peyton may never play again, period. His short meeting with reporters this past week didn’t divulge ANY encouraging news.
No way will the Colts get rid of Manning, the’ve been building their franchise on him..........If anything, a dismal season this year will afford them a quality draft pick next year.........
If they hired my replacement against my wishes all that would go out the window, it would no longer be a company I loved, it would immediately become a company I loathed.
Now I’m not saying the Packers made a mistake, Favre was getting old and the future of the franchise had to be protected, and Aaron’s success has shown he was the right draft pick. I’m just saying humans are humans and basic human self interest says you don’t help your replacement replace you.
Sorry, the way our offensive line plays ... Peyton would retire by week 3.
From Rodgers mouth....

Other than the disclaimer about this story being pure speculation, how can one tell it from virtually other story printed in the Washington Post or Politico?
(I don’t trust the liberal media)
Notice it was all observational stuff, nothing directly taught, just learned by watching. Which is the constant narrative.

The level of help Favre gave Rodgers when Rodgers was first starting off under his wing in the NFL is well-documented. In short, there was no help. It’s part of the reason people started turning on the future Hall of Famer.

Favre went out of his way to say it wasnt his job to mentor Rodgers. Rodgers has had to answer questions about Favre at every turn.

Whats important is another in a long line of dense reporters failing to understand what has been painfully obvious to everyone even remotely near the game of football for years now: Rodgers was no protégé because Favre made no effort whatsoever to be a mentor.
Rodgers LEARNED from Favre but Favre didn’t TEACH him anything, Rodgers just paid attention.
$$$$$$$$$$
Now, there is the real answer.
FACT: If Payton is on the Colts roster at the start of the league year (very early March) he is due a cool $28mm. If he is not 100% healthy, they will pass and draft Luck, period, no questions asked. This is a business first and if you think anything of it you are sadly mistaken.
If Payton were healthy and I were the person making the draft picks, I’d still pick Luck and then trade him for 12 players.
True
Fair enough...can’t say I disagree with that.
I probably used the word “mentor” for Favre in the sense that Rodgers learned things from him (rather than being taught by Favre). I probably should have said that Rodgers was Favre’s understudy....
This dingbat’s article just reinforces my opinion that the Washington Compost sends its personnel manager down to Dupont Circle where he hires guys sleeping on benches.
