Several months ago a post got sidetracked and several posters started talking about why razor blades eventually dull. While many of us thought it was just a dulling from shaving, one person suggested that the primary reason for dulling was microscopic pitting caused by rust. That started me wondering...
On August 6th, I started drying my razor with a hair dryer after shaving. While I don't have a real heavy beard, I do have to shave daily...something I've been doing for over 50 years. I've been using the Gillet Fusion blades (you know, the ones with the five little cutting edges). Typically, I could get at least three weeks out of one blades, which is pretty good, especially when the blades cost about $3 each.
The hair dryer is always plugged in and sit near the sink, and it only takes about 20 seconds to really dry the razor. Today marks two months since I started using this blade and it still gives a clean shave with no uncomfortable drag. I was just wondering if anyone else experimented, too.
Because I enjoy it. By saying “not this topic again”, I am indicating that I like to make fun of this topic.
Do you bath yourself as the animals do, i.e.: licking your body with your tongue? Or, do you use an unnatural method such as soaking yourself in a tub full of water or standing under a stream of water that comes out of a faucet? ;)
Do you use soap? Deodorant? Toothpaste? Toilet paper? All of these seem rather unnatural, too. ;)
Do you brush your hair with your fingers or do you use a tool like a comb or hairbrush? ;)
Do you wear shoes? Socks? Clothes? ;)
How do you get from place to place? The natural way is to walk everywhere on your own two legs.
What do you eat? Do you hunt down your own food and kill it with the tools God provided? (hands, feet and teeth) ;)
I could go on, but I think you get what I'm driving at... ;)
I have a year supply of razors (including gillette fusion) and blades for both my hubby and me.... all free.... because of coupons....and...almost every week there are awesome coupons in the newspapers for them. Gillette Fusion actually has the best coupons.... Schick also has some great ones...
I use single double-edge razor blades. You can still buy packs of them in some stores.
I’ve been shaking the water off of the blade for years by banging the end of my old safety razor against my palm. Corrosion takes place more readily on wet blades. I get one to two months good usage out of each blade.
Around a year ago, I found a box of old razors and blades left by the former owner of this house. There were several old double edge razors and most of them had adjustable blade angles.
Just for the heck of it, I tried one and to my surprise it did just fine. It is not quite as smooth as the newer multiple blade razors but not that much different either. The only time I use it is when I let my beard go for a few days and then it actually works better.
Understood. It's hard to fit in with that crowd when you're clean, well-groomed and smelling good... ;)
Good for you . . . those little suckers are expensive! I could not imagine using a blade less than a couple of weeks. Do people really use a fresh blade with each shave? Well, maybe if they live in the big White Crib.
You know shaving is a daily chore for the wookie . . .
ping and pass it on...
I gave up on paying a ton of $ for razor cartridges and went back to using an old fashioned safety razor. Much of the world still uses these and a year or two worth of blades can be ordered online for $10-$20 depending on your favorite brand. I don’t cry much about tossing a blade I’ve used several times when it cost me a nickel.
My solution: I’ve grown a beard, and only shave the neck & cheeks. Swipe, swipe, swipe, swipe, swipe & I’m done. Disposables last about a month.
I have an electric to trim the fuzzies.
Teen girls will make you a millionaire..
I’m with you guys...shower shaver...hang it on the shower head rack when done...blades last forever. Never drag. I switch it out only when I notice I have a 5 o’clock shadow by 4:30...
I use an old coffee cup, a funnel, and mineral oil. After shaving and washing the razor, dip the razor in the oil, and rest it in the funnel where the oil can drain back into the cup.
My razor has lasted over6 months.
I’ve started doig this and when I got my last haircut, my barber said it does work and the oil from your skin acts as an additional lubricant.
