Today Tuva lost one of the most vivid representatives of the traditional school of Tuvan khoomei, the owner of inimitable performance mastery of kargyraa style, National khoomeizhi of Republic Tyva, Aldyn-ool Sevek. In the words of musicologist Valentina Suzukei, his manner of throat singing was unique to such an extent that it was unmistakably recognizable..."
He was the only khoomeizhi whose performance so far nobody in the world could copy or imitate, despite all striving.
He spent the last years critically ill in Kyzyl, hospitalized at the oncology hospital, while he very much wanted to go back home - to the distant Mongun-Taiga.

I’m afraid it doesn’t sound like much to me. All I hear is droning.

There’s someone who does a song on some compilation of world rock music which features part of In A Gadda Da Vida sung in this style. And I think the singer is from Tuva.

I saw a live performance of this last done by a very prominent group. I was truly amazing. The group I saw also performs with many modern artists on cooperative recordings for an even more unique experience. I will try to find their name, they have quite a bit of material released.

I think you may be referring to these guys Huun Huur Tu. I saw them perform last year and they are amazing.

Sounds like an American Indian imitating a digeradoo! Certainly a very difficult technique.

I love World Music and here is like the MOST BEAUTIFUL song in the whole world!! It is by Loreena McKennit called TANGO TO EVORA. It is all over youtube and even with poetry done to it. I just want to cry every time I listen to it.:

Bump for home. Dare not subject co-workers to Tuvan throat singing music.
They may wonder even more than usual what is wrong with me.
