The official announcement for the October 4th iPhone event has been sent out to the media in the form of a 'Let's Talk iPhone' invitation. Wall Street has not yet caught on to the fact that this iPhone upgrade is an absolute game-changer. Consensus opinion remains severely off track with the expectation that this new phone will have a better camera, be a little faster, and look the same as the iPhone 4. The truth is that this iPhone 5 upgrade is the most significant upgrade to the Apple ecosystem since the initial launch of the product back in 2007. Wall Street will soon catch on to the reports being leaked to tech publications.
Consider the ramifications of the following iPhone 5 elements:
The Siri voice control system allows users to instruct the iPhone to 'sent a text message to Jason Schwarz asking him meet me for lunch'. Think about this capability in terms of safety. We all know that too many drivers send and receive text messages, now they will be able to safely operate an iPhone in the car. The voice assistant adds a layer of intelligence as well. If I ask my iPhone to 'call Dad' it might ask me whether it should dial his home phone or his mobile. It is also able to perform Web based search functions such as 'book a table for two at 9:00 tonight' or 'send a taxi to my house'. . .

I’m an X owner, too, and am very pleased with the latest OS update from last weekend. My contract is up in April, and am eagerly looking forward to the X2 or whatever newer model is out by then ...
I want the Bionic next.
Nuance updated “Dragon Go” today; it’s a free piece of voice recognition software that does a bit more than anything prior (including Siri).
For example, you could say find music by Stephenwolf - and it will give you choices from your library, iTunes, Pandora as well as YouTube and Google searches.
Pretty slick. I think Android will have something similar in 6-8 months.
The Pannous voice actions app for DROID already does most of what Siri does.
And Siri is over a year old. Like I said; wait 6-8 months and something similar will be available for Android. Apple innovates - Android copies. One leads the way, the other follows the leader.
ICS hopes to catch up with IOS 4.3.5; but we will have IOS5 in just a couple weeks.
What does IOS bring to the table? Well, the last 1,000 photo's you took with your iPhone are synch'd to your cloud account (free). Any music you purchased is available in the cloud (free). For $20 you can buy iTunes Match which will scan your drive and 'legitimize' your entire iTunes library and make them available in non-DRM AAC (loss-less codec) Free, so you can simply download them from your cloud account, as well as all your applications - for up to 10 devices (free). Then, we have the whole update and upgrade your IOS over the Cloud things. And that's what's known now - before it's been formerly announced. We will know more on Tuesday.
Does the Bionic have a dual core processor?
My wife just picked up the Droid 3 and I’m a little jealous of the power she needs to read Facebook and play games. Heh, heh!
Shh... Apple users don’t realize that every new version of the iPhone just has features that Android users have had for awhile.
Yes it does, but the Bionic will be old in 3 months.

It’s a phone ... you dial numbers , you speak .. why do you need a new one every few months? So you can feel depressed in 6 months when you’re phone is 2 generations old?
No IOS or Android-flavor-of-the-week for me. My WP7 phone is great. The rest of the family has IOS or Blackberry and all want to use my phone.
(1) My WP7 phone has voice controls (start an app, search with Bing, find a song, etc), though I've never tried some of the longer voice commands the Siri claims to be able to do. I can even make those commands over my bluetooth earpiece. I'm certain one of my friend's Android can use voice commands too.
(2) My phone model was NOT a top-end one and is about a year old ... it has a 5mp camera. I know there are 8mp camera phones out there already.
(3) Skydrive! I get 25GB free storage on Skydrive and have my phone set to upload every photo I take immediately to Skydrive. I can even open and edit Word docs and Excel spreadsheets on my phone and keep them on Skydrive while doing so.
OK, OK, it's obvious I like my phone. It's also obvious LOTS of people like iPhones. But what makes iPhone5 worth it? It sure isn't Apple's iTunes software.

My customer database works on my phone and my computer. As I intergrate my IPad into my sales it will update the data automatically. The seamless intergration, the paperless office and the quick communication features have been wonderful!
The question is: Will I use the new features? I’m a 62 year-0ld businessman who is learning new things every day. I wish I had tools like this thirty years ago.

After months of frustration, I got an Iphone 3GS. $50 with a 2 year contract - cheap.
It is incredible. A tool belt even Batman would admire.
So far, I have paid $.99 TOTAL for over 40 apps - all but one was free. For this I have news, sports, finance, stocks, & weather, including radar. All my music albums are now on my phone. TV & movies are mostly free. Web surfing & email are easy.
I have a free GPS navigator with voice directions - forget Garmin. An interstate exit app that tells me what services are located at the next, or any, interstate exit or zip code. A mosquito repellent app. Proximity alerts from to-do lists that remind me I am near a to-do task. Voice & text language translators. Bar code scanners that tell me where I can get a scanned product cheaper, with directions & a phone number. The entire US white & yellow pages. Every kind of calculator - profession specific. It can even do fractional arithmetic with results in fractions - a carpenter's dream. A level & tape measure. Incredible cameras that do 360 degree panoramas. Every kind of alarm & notification you can & cannot imagine.
With over 90,000 apps, everyone can find some apps that will make their life easier.
Now, I have never been a fan of Apple. Never had a Mac - didn't want one. I was raised on MSDOS - Apple was a dirty word.
But this phone is so much more than a phone. It's a portable, electronic, very smart toolbox that can save me serious time & money & provide some serious CYA with its reminders. If it could pay for my purchases, I wouldn't need my wallet anymore, & that's saying a lot for a man who has carried a wallet for 45+ years.
I still have glare problems in the sunlight, but not nearly as bad; & my old eyes have trouble with the small screen, but again it is better; & voice dialing makes calling someone real easy.
So, the next time you see someone “playing” with their phone, they might be buying/selling 100,000 shares of Apple or AT&T, reading a book, or checking their home security cameras. Amazing!
