The Door is Wide Open (Palin's opportunity)
C4P ^ | 9-24-2011 | Doug Brady

After Thursday night’s debate, it’s more clear than ever that the door is more than cracked: It’s wide open. The two so-called frontrunners are both fatally flawed candidates. Mitt Romney is so utterly unmoored by anything approaching conservative convictions or, let’s face it, any convictions at all (other than his desire to be president) that it’s impossible for him to speak on an issue without contradicting the multiple positions he’s taken. Rick Perry, it’s increasingly clear, has his own issues and is simply not ready for prime time. William Kristol, after watching Thursday night’s “debate”, had one word to describe the current GOP field: “Yikes“:

I just estimated I would save enough each year to buy a new Cadillac each year on the 999 plan.

The plan is tremendous and will electrify the economy.

the 999 plan:

>> No payroll tax! That is a huge savings for most working people = 6.2% of your gross paycheck!
>> No tax on capital gains.
>> No tax on dividends.
>> Top tax rate for individuals drops to 9%.

I don’t know about you, but I could buy a new Cadillac every year from savings with the 999 plan.

Sarah Palin has been running. She is still running, and will continue to run all the way to the white house. Very soon it will all become clear.

Christie doesn’t like guns and is anti 2nd Amendment, so how could he do that?

“I don’t know who was advising her but they must have been working for the Romney campaign.”

Palin learned that in the 2008 election cycle,,,,Never turn your back on Romney or his supporters. They are the principal reason she went “Rogue” on the McCain Campaign managers.....Funny that Bachmann didn’t seem to learn from Palin’s experience.......

Of course, but I don’t remember it and I don’t remember Obama in a debate. How did he do? He can’t speak without a teleprompter.

Yes, among others. I definitely don't want the Mormons, Paul. Bachmann. I wish Newt didn't have so much baggage...I love Cain.

Cheers, yourself!

Sorry for the delayed reply. I had to go to work. That was a well-said reply to my question. It seems to lead right back to where we started with “I just think she isn’t qualified.” That seems to be a a kind of vague, unspecified gut-feeling you have, baecause going back through the reasoning process that leads back to your feeling that she isn’t “qualified”, are you sure you aren’t rationalizing an emotion? Here is what I see in your reply to my question of what policies she espouses do you disagree with.:

“I didn’t say I disagreed with her position on any policy.”

If you don’t disagree with her position on any policy, logic would dictate that you might not rule out giving your support.

“I think being guv of the state of Alaska is not good experience for being POTUS because it has a tiny population” (several states have less population than Alaska; by that standard Dick Cheney and Joe Biden would be disqualified) and few problems common to the lower 48.(wait - we have common currency, common social problems, common language, common defense, I think Alaska shares the same basic problems as we have in every state in this Union)

“I would love to see her at Energy or EPA.”
I think she would love to have the Executive Authority to downsize and transfer powers of those agencies back to the states and the people, and you can’t do that if your job is to administer and take care of the employees, see that the agency does the job it is currently working on when you take it over. Only the Congress along with the Executive could accomplish anything worthwhile with those agencies you named, not Governor Palin as Head of those agencies.

“She made her name sending corrupt politicians to the the pen... not one of the things the Executive branch does.”

If that is true, as head of the Executive branch of the government of Alaska, how did she make her name doing that very thing? Here’s how, the Attorney General serves at the pleasure of the Chief Executive, and prioritizes his work in concert with the executive with the goals of justice put first. So, what really matters in fixing the incredible corruption problems we have in this country right now, is appointment of an honest and capable Attorney General, U.S .Attorneys, and Judges in the Justice Department and the Judicial Branch. I do trust Governor Palin above any other announced candidates, based on her track record, to do exactly that.

“I didn’t say I don’t like her...I just think she isn’t qualified. I was in the “fan club” but I got tired of the cat and mouse game she is playing and started to think about the kind of POTUS she would be...and decided she shouldn’t be.”

Please rethink Governor Palin’s decision not to announce early and participate in the media circus that is the current campaign and “debates”. That is not a cat and mouse game; it is simple a political strategy that she has every right to use. In my opinion, after she lost with McCain in ‘08, and the Democrat operatives and media hounds chased her and her family back to Alaska, and filed all those lawsuits, she did not play any kind of “cat and mouse” game. In fact, she personally campaigned for, and was instrumental in getting the tea-party congress, governors, State Legislators and US Senators elected in the mid-terms as much or more than any other single individual.

If you want the staus quo, go ahead and continue to oppose Governor Palin. I, for one, know of few others out there running that are not themselves part of this problematic system and bear responsibility for getting the federal govenment into the debt-ridden, over-committed, dysfunctional condition it is now in.

I've read her book and I watched the movie.

(several states have less population than Alaska; by that standard Dick Cheney and Joe Biden would be disqualifie

But...they weren't guv of their respective states. Don't put Biden's name in the same sentence with Cheney. :) Both have more experience that you get from being guv of a small state for two years. Cheney was probably one of the most experienced.

wait - we have common currency, common social problems

She has no clue about the social problems some states have, much less the country as a whole, IMO. Our economy is in a mess and she doesn't have the experience with that aspect of government. Has she ever heard of Milton Friedman?

I think she would love to have the Executive Authority to downsize and transfer powers of those agencies back to the states and the people,

I think she needs the experience of heading up a department that is much bigger than any office she has held. Also, I think we have an announced candidate who is better prepared to do that.

the Attorney General serves at the pleasure of the Chief Executive, and prioritizes his work in concert with the executive with the goals of justice put first.

Yes, and the appointments have to be approved by congress. You really think she could get them to approve people who are going to put thenselves or their friends in the pen?...where they belong! LOL!

Unless the Repubs had big number advantages in both the House and the Senate, I think she would have nothing but frustration. Can you see Reid going along with her? They would be fighting her more than anybody.

No, I don't think she is qualified and doesn't have the experience to be POTUS without some resume enhancement. She is only 47...she has time and should do more to make herself a better candidate.

You are NOT one of them but some Palin fanatics on FR are making me really mad the way they put the other candidates down. They are not open minded and if there is an "emotionsl" element to my assessment of Sarah, it is that they have turned me off to a certain extent. I believe she even acknowledged it and asked that it stop. I don't know about other blogs, or whatever she was referring to, but it didn't stop on FR.

BTW, I don't think she is running in 2012.

Have a good one!

Add to that:
What is Palin doing and why is she letting us down

"What is Palin doing and why is she letting us down" equals "I have my own ideas of what she should do, how she should do it, and when she should do it. Because none of this is happening according to the schedule and fashion that I envision, it's really a reflection of how she feels about me."

The idea some folks seem to be pushing--that there is something fundamentally wrong with her because she isn't copying other GOP folk announcing their candidacy by announcing when they announce and "running" when they run and "debating" them when they all get together in their gab-fests that have, until now, been managed by many of the very media people those same folks claim have no legitimacy--pretty much contradicts the claim by the same folks that they want a candidate who is different, who has her own mind and way of doing things.

It boils down to a whine of, "I wanted you to be different but here you are refusing to be just like everyone else in the Republican field of candidates! That means you aren't a serious candidate."

Is she talking with people who would vote for her? Yes. Is she doing this all over the country? Yes. Are those turning out to hear her coming in larger numbers than they are for any other "serious" candidate (like Pawlenty and Huntsman or this year's "It's Bob Dole's/John McCain's turn" candidate, Mitt Romney)? Yes. Does she continue to point out the flaws of a government controlled by folks like Obama? Yes. Does she continue to point out what has made America great in the past and what can make America great again in the future? Yes. Is she focusing the attention of people on serious issues and telling them that they can make a real difference and that it, like the election of 2010, depends on them and what they do rather than on what their Democrat/statist opponents think they can't do? Yes.

Then it looks like she's been doing a real service for the cause rather than merely using the cause as a means of promoting her own, relatively more narrow, agenda of running for public office. But then some folks, such as I've seen here (on FR, not just this thread), stamp their feet and say in a pouty Shirley Temple fashion, "But none of that counts because she still hasn't formally announced like everyone else who has already announced has already announced!!! She's just promoting herself by not announcing instead of announcing and promoting herself!"
