Mass. Gov Caught Riding in SUV After Declaring it ‘Car-Free Week’

“You got me!”

That’s how Massachusetts Gov. Duval Patrick reacted after local news station WBZ-TV caught Patrick driving in his SUV during “car-free week” — a green initiative launched by the governor himself.

“Look, it’s a great initiative for people who can make the most of it,” he told reporters. “I hope they will and I hope during the course of the week to make the most of it, too.”

But he also tried to make light of the situation while quipping, “I carpooled this morning with my trooper. We both had to come together.”

But some local residents aren’t laughing. WBZ has some reaction:

“It’s a little bit of hypocrisy,” observed one commuter.

We asked some regular folks if the Governor was ‘talking the talk’ instead of ‘walking the walk.’

“If he’s going to tell people to do something,” says another man, “he should try to do it himself. That’s the way I see it.”

[...]

“He should be a role model for everyone,” one man told us.

Here’s footage of the incident, along with a cheeky report by WBZ about politicians who don’t follow their own advice:

FWIW, on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, the Mass Pike used to back up for about 10 miles before the exit for I-84 (to New York), with all the students going home. I don’t know if EZ-Pass has helped much. I know if you use EZ-Pass coming down from up North in the New Hampshire stretch I-95 you can go through a three lane toll by-pass at 65 MPH (with signs warning you NOT to slow down ;)

When John Kerry was asked about his “gas guzzling” SUVs he claimed they belonged to his family/wife....not him.

They honestly believe the rules and regulations are for the masses and not them - the entitled ones. We need to fire all of them in government and start over with those who have our interest at heart. We need constitutionalists and not limp wristed, Louie the fourteenth, “let them eat cake”, aristocrats!

... “I carpooled this morning with my trooper. We both had to come together.”

So, he was riding in a vehicle probably paid for by the state, therefore it was "free" for him. QED
