SO, after much anticipation, I finally had the chance to try Five Guys Burgers and Fries.
And after hearing and reading all the hype, I was definetly...What would be the correct word?...
UNIMPRESSED!!!
RE #48, #49 and #50:
Um...so would it be a good guess that you like Checkers? :)
Had 5 guys burger this weekend thought it was pretty good, fies had better.
Side note, if anyone remembers Gino,s? Well they are back! We just had one open up in Towson, MD last week and every time I drive by there is a line out the door!
I will go check out Gino’s in a few weeks when the lines go down!
Almost swallowed my tongue when the cost was $11.00 for soda, fries and a average burger.
I can go to Kopp’s here in Milwaukee get a hell of a better and bigger burger, better fries, and a scoop of frozen custard for $4 less.
Was there once and never have been back.
Whats a Northern Virginia? :)
“Man I miss the Tommys double chili cheeseburger.”
Actually, that’s mostly the only thing I order there, WITH the shakes. :)
Agreed....Five Guys is taking a beating on this thread (which was the OP’s intention), but I have to disagree. Their burgers are pretty damn good. Every one I’ve had anyway.
I like that they grill their jalapenos.
That made me laugh.
Simply from the fact that it sounds like something I'd do.
I like Five Guys and I’d probably go there much more often if it weren’t so pricey. If we are going to spent $40 for burgers and fries, I’d rather have someone bring it to my table and not deal with the whole standing in line thing.
It isn’t very good if you get the Cajun fries and lots of stuff on the burger.
Best to stick to the traditional..then five guys is pretty good.
I go to 5 guys.....two patties, two American cheese slices, extra fresh onions, mayo, tomatoes, mustard, 4 dill slices, lettuce, and toasted bun
A large natural fries which you have to eat immediately after receiving them
and you are in good shape
That is how you compare hamburger joints
Not a Five Guys fan. I went twice—the second time just to confirm my initial impression. The burger was meh and the fries soggy. For a chain, I much prefer Fuddruckers burgers.
I liken the Five Guys phenomenon to Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Both were hyped far beyond the quality of the product. When KK came to the northeast, there were lines out the door. Eventually, most of the Krispy Kremes closed in the northeast. 5 Guys had lines out the door when they opened. Let’s see if they follow the Krispy Kreme downward trajectory.
I’ll second your comments on Steak and Shake. I had a co-worker who raved about their food and when the chain finally expanded into my area (central Alabama at the time), I decided to give them a try.
I’ve never been more disappointed in a fast food joint in my life. Mediocre burger, unappetizing fries and over-priced to boot. Never been back. If I’m looking for a burger on the road, it’s still tough to beat the Burger King Whopper. If I’m in the mood for a sit-down meal, I’ll take a bacon burger at Chili’s.
5 guys is pricey but has pretty good quality beef and is an option if you live in a hamburger wasteland like Miami.
Compared to Wendy's here, 5 Guys is a lot better, but Steak and Shake is just as good and has been offering a lot of deals on kids eating free.
Fuddruckers? fresh ground beef, the best.
Bottom line
5 Guys is hype if you have a choice of good burger joints, but has a bright future in towns where the competition is McDonald's and Burger King.
Wow. Sounds like five guys is not that swift. I’ve never tried them. I do love Wendy’s. That double-stack is just over a buck, tastes great, and is a meal for me all by itself. And they give you a water for free.. dinner for about a buck!!
If you ate that many, and got that big, I doubt they'd be able to fly you anywhere.
Never been to Five Guys. I plan on it when I’m in the DFW area in November.
I’ll keep an open mind. But... The standard for which all GREAT hamburgers are judged by is...
What-a-Burger.
That is all.
You are correct based on my one (and last) visit. The moment at the cash register was “breathtaking!”
I liked it. But it was the last thing I ate before I got a stomach bug.I can never go there again. I feel nauseous just thinking about that place
Haha....I have a history with Five Guys. Was never a big fan, thought it was so-so. I was due with my first child on Dec. 16 last year. On Dec. 12, my husband and I were hungry for lunch so we tried going to Beef O Bradys. Horrible service and a long wait made us leave; by that point, we just went to the first place we found — Five Guys.
We ate there and got home around 3:30. At 4 p.m. I started having contractions. Our son was born the next day. We laugh and say either he loved it or hated it! Regardless, I can’t smell that place without getting kind of nauseated haha.
Don’t come to North Carolina if you want a good hamburger! NO ONE can sell it unless it is cooked to 160 degrees - in other words well done. Dry and tasteless!
Hey, when we were in line they played a “Jeff Beck” song from “blow by blow” I could not believe it, so cool, thumbs up!!!
