Okay, we all know Hurricane Irene was hyped to the gills.

WHY?

Was it slow news? Was it media infatuation with Obama at the helm of FEMA?

Those of us without power who were busy trying to save our foundations while not getting electrocuted by downed wires all day didn’t have a chance to sit on our fat asses watching TV like you.

I’m so sorry for your difficult Sunday. I hope you are okay now.

Typical. I have been through many storms, earthquakes and wildland fires. I will submit that I have survived more than anyone on the Eastern seaboard. One of the largest earthquakes in Kalifornia history had the epicenter 3 miles from my home. In 1982 we lived through a storm that dumped 20 inches of water in 12 hours. Fires that go to 10,000 acres in 20 hours and burn hundreds of homes.

A once in a lifetime storm doesn't even pass muster.

What about people that lived through the flooding in the Midwest all Summer? Haven't heard jack about them and that was for weeks on end. That was the point of the OP; why is this storm so hyped? Because it dared to enter the world of the elite in NYC.

Apparently you are doing well enough to be Freeping.

Don't know where you are or what news you listened to, but I'm in California and I heard plenty about the flooding in the midwest.

Thoughts and prayers for all those affected by the storm.

Really? i am somewhat surprised. It didn’t seem to be on FNS or the other MSM(which I admit I do not watch very much of).

I haven’t read the whole thread, but it is only hype if you didn’t lose your power or have trees fall on your property. In RI, I lost power at 8am Sunday, and they say it could be weeks to get it back on. It is just so widespread that there is not enough manpower to get it fixed.

The threat was real and the actual result was a huge disruption to millions of people.

So cut the “it was all just hype” thing, because there are a lot of people who are paying a price today.

What do you want, thousands dead and entire coastal communities wiped away in the headlines? Just because it was not Katrina doesn’t mean there isn’t suffering and expense going on out here.

and p.s. Have you ever tried to post from a 3G Kindle? What a joke that browser is! I am at work now so I have the luxury of a computer, but even getting a text msg out from my cell phone yesterday was a challenge because the cell towers were overloaded.

and another p.s. Don’t sign up for Verizon Fios when it comes to your neighborhood — your landline will only work for about 6 hours after the power goes out.

(Sorry, I really needed to vent.)

Guess what? I was just shown a NEW storm on the map, just southwest of Puerto Rico as we sit and type!

Maybe you were away from the news more than you thought at this period?

It’s hard for me to break down, since my family spans the spectrum from extreme Ron Paulists to (thankfully mild) leftys. My daughter’s boyfriend mostly listens to npr, and I remember even they were covering it quite a bit.

Maybe but I had several people I know with family in the area commenting on how little press the flooding was receiving. One item of note is that 0 ignored it completely.

I don’t know why they hype these storms so much, but I’m sure it has to do with ratings for the news programs.

I will tell you this though. That when you lose electrical and telephone service like I have and it won’t return for a week,That’s a disaster.

It maybe minor to some but it’s still a disaster.

Somebody at FEMA can read a ledger...and has realized they need to justify their load on We the People’s federal treasure.

Oh and I could give a small rats a$$ about some jackass that wants to live on the beach and expects the State to make him whole again after a storm.

Several times. Times to wean them.

Henceforth they're covered once; after that. If they can afford to own and build on a barrier island or on a low lying beach elsewhere, they can afford to bear the entire cost of rebuilding, or the total insurance premiums entirely divorced from the taxpayer.

The freaking affluent other "entitlement" crowd.
