Good afternoon gardeners. I hope all of you in the path of Irene heed the warnings and please stay safe! Not much gong on garden wise here in East Central Mississippi. I am just waiting to see how a few paste tomatoes do. And while I am waiting I decided to use some of my pears to make preserves. I am using the recipe I posted on last weeks thread, which calls for a little activity and a lot of waiting. I will be doing the final canning step this morning. This recipe may be way to sweet for my taste. So with all this waiting time I had, I needed to fill the time some how so I ordered a Beer making kit, which I understand includes a lot of waiting also. Now I am just waiting for FR to come back up so I can post this weeks thread. I have been doing a lot of waiting and it is tiring.

Gorgeous Dahlia! Thanks! :)
Just wear a long skirt when you wear them after the squish is done..
Good Job!1! thanks
This year I planted edamame beans and what with a whole lot going on they got past me- first year I have planted them. I decided I would just let them mature for dry beans and use them in soups etc. They are tough to shell right now. I don’t know about later when they are dryer.
I planted some yellow wax beans also but we had a hard rain and they all washed out except two plants which have provided me with several beans for picking and eating in the garden while working with the other stuff I planted. I have no idea where the seeds washed to, they certainly did not come up anywhere else.
You have planted a wider variety of beans than I have I thoroughly enjoy the catalog from The Vermont Bean whatever with all the choices for heirloom beans. jacob’s Cattle is one of my favorites.
So who won?
The couch or the kitchen?
LOL! I had to buy some because I never wear them. I’m forever in blue jeans. :-)
Have you figured out what to do with all that corn?
Thanks for the pictures! The panty hose is too narrow, that’s my problem.
Beautiful melons!
LOL, that’s my song.
Had our first cooked corn out of our garden with the ham, potato salad, sliced cucumber and store bought melon tonight. The corn is a bi-color and a little immature at this stage. We had BBQ hamburger and hot dogs at Church service this morning to celebrate the annual blessing of the children. Lot’s of people and a ton of food and most of all good memories.
Good Old Melon Bras, LOL!
Save your old, ratty bras for that use next year - one more way to have fun in the garden, LOL!
another year I've tried very hard to grow Walla Walla sweets ...onions....and another year of smallish results..
.forget about my leeks...I planted them in the wrong spot...
I do have a few sweet banana peppers coming on...and beans have given us a few meals...
but what I did today was planted some small bush bean seedlings...I started them 2nd week in August.....they're supposed to produce in 58 days or so....with any luck and some plastic covering, I might have beans in October...
all you folks talking about turning the oven on and it was high 90’s today here...I just can’t do it...
What is the variety of that “54” day corn? The quickest I ever found was QUICKIE but I am always looking for something new, sweeter and quicker because of our cool coastal climate...
Don’t do it!!
I blew it off again, tonight. Tomorrow night will be just fine... :)
Actually, that would be a good use for them. I found out a year ago that I have a fabric allergy and had to start making my own bras, but I recently came across several of the store-bought ones that had gotten pushed to the back of the drawer. Now I know what to do with them!
I have several different tomato types that are supposed to be good for short growing seasons. Nothing yet. The Zucchini is producing very well. Yellow squash beginning to produce. Potatoes always do well. I live at 8,500 ft elevation in the Colorado Rockies and the low temps at night are usually in the 50’s and sometimes 60’s. The average time between frosts is only 90 days so I start indoors 1-2 months before planting.
Well fanfan, cheap pantyhose do get runs. Next time try Walmarts. lol
Sounds yummy!
