Cats are Republican, Dogs are Democrats
Politico ^ | August 19, 2011 | Keith Koffler

I know it may be upsetting for many of you to discover the animal you cherish is of the opposite political party. Would former President Bill Clinton ever be able to admit to himself that the late Socks was a Republican? Could Democrats ever bring themselves to forgive Checkers, the dog – and a Democrat – who belonged to Richard M. Nixon and whose mention in the famous 1952 “Checkers speech” helped save Nixon’s political career?

When cats are born, they believe they are in a state of liberty, and from then on they are determined to keep it that way. No one tells them what to do. They don’t believe it takes a village, because they know they might have to take instructions from the village idiot in the local government.

My opinion is that the premise is ass-backwards, to tell you the truth. When did you ever see a cat willing to defend you from violence...when did you see a cat willing to take punishment relentlessly and still have the capacity for love? Nope. Ass backwards

"Actually, cats can keep all rodents out of the house. I have the laziest, most insolent feline that ever drew breath, but she does keep the mice population down to a bare minimum. Also, their extraordinary hearing will allow you to pick up on intruders - if you watch their ears prick up at the right time."

I cannot tell you how true that is! I now only have 2 cats. My 2nd cat Mary (I call her autistic Mary because there is something just wrong with her. I describe her the way most mothers do when they have an autistic child, but just can't pinpoint their finger on it (nor can the doctors until the child is older). However, ANY LITTLE noise, distractiom, inside ot out, she's on in 2 seconds.

When my place was under construction I had a mice problem. I had NO idea what a huntress she was. When there aren't mice it's moths, bugs, anything that moves and does not belong there.

My 2nd one Mimi is just a big fat fatty who lays around and comes to me when he wants affection. He just watches Mary the huntress do her thing.

My dogs kill bugs. One of my dogs, who is 120 pounds, whacked a fly to the deck with his paw. It was dead before it landed. Inside the house, they snap and swallow moths and flies out of the air.

"I don't believe this is true. Before we started getting home vet visits, my cat went to the vet once a year, and when she saw the carrier come of of the closet she was long gone."

Not are you only correct in your statement, but somehow they can "read your mind". Mary the huntress knew when I took that carrier out, it wasn't for her, but my eldest (she died in December). Mary went over to it, jumped in it, rubbed all over the damn thing, etc.

The one time I had to bring Mary the huntress to the vet she knew damn well it was for her.

An hour later I finally got her to the vet (eye infection). They were more worried about me than her. I was bloodied. My arms, stomach and legs...the blood was seeping through.

After that I told Mary the huntress if she ever got sick again, she's on her own....because next time I think she would try to snuff me out!

Cats have infrared sensors and can see in the dark. They can crawl through a hole the size of their head and cats RATS!

Dogs are all barks and bites!

I dig the similarites of the topic proposition.

Hahahaha, my now deceased little one would stare at me. I would pretend to get up, she would move a tad. And I say “I mean it, get off the counter top”! She’d just sit there and stare at me.

So I’d get 1/2 way up and she would start to “walk” off the counter top, then stop. I had to actually get up and remove her!

“when was the last time anyone said ‘that guy works like a cat’?”

As a real cat-person, and not a dog-person, but a hard worker I have to say: GOOD ONE!

I have to work hard, I have a kitteh to support!

“I make 1 pro-dog post and get swarmed by cat lovers...”

I feel your pain, I meant to go today (and I will go) to see how many hits my “10 things your didn’t know about phone numbers” thread got.

I have no doubt it is WAY more than any of the serious threads I ever posted got.

But, you know, life is short, threads are long!

As much as I love my dogs I can see advantages in cat ownership.

For example I can't holler at the TV during ball games anymore - it causes my dogs too much stress & anxiety - the two year old usually starts trembling & the older one does the head tilting "but WHY?' thing.

The cats I've known would simply turn their head away in contempt.

That lovey looks like my kitty!

Yes, muggs, you should.

Hi again slings, don’t know if someone else got to you first, Joe six is already on this!

I LOVE cats, but I really appreciate dogs too.

My Irish grandma had great respect for dogs, she would always tell us how the dogs took the sheep to graze, watched them all day, and brought them back home.

But, I will always like cats best.

How they are so still.

Then they are so fast.

How, as my atheist brother said, G-d made them for decoration.

How (except for Lions) they are loners.

How they don’t give a hoot.

This is a great thread! Great article, very amusing.

Sorry about autistic Mary. Was she a feral cat brought into your home? My little black cat was a feral kitten and those type of cats never become domesticated. She’s staring at me right now - as if I was a nice piece of steak.
