Upon arriving home at about 1:40 p.m., she found the animal control officers being unreasonable and milling about on her property without a search warrant. ...
Much discussion took place during the day and, when the animal control officers told Bell she had too many animals for your zoning, she begged to differ. No, you need to check your zoning regulations, she told them. I moved in before you changed the zoning. I can have as many animals as I want. I have more than an acre. Im zoned A-2.
Apparently stumped by her knowledge of the local zoning, she said they told her they would set the zoning issue aside.
When she told them her business was a livestock operation, they told her they disagreed and began to push the proverbial envelope.
Several times during the day, animal control officers approached Bell and asked her to sign the rabbits over to them. When she asked what it was going to cost her if she didnt, their reply stunned her. They said, Five dollars a day per rabbit, Bell recalled, and I said, Thats $815 per day. Take em! I cant afford that. As a result of recently putting two boys through Colorado State University, Bell said, she told the officers she has a mountain of debt already and could not afford more than $24,000 per month for a minimum of one month. The entire herd of rabbits was worth only $17,000.
At approximately 4:30 p.m., Bell said, a sheriffs deputy arrived with the long-awaited search warrant and, within a half hour, the assembled animal control officers and volunteers began hauling out the rabbits in an effort that lasted about four hours.

Homeland Security is using radical leftists to finger their enemy domestic terroirsts. Now they are using an animal rights group to direct raids on farm animals.
Seems these activists are putting themselves on line for being sued for slander by their political and social targets.
This story is appalling. The violations of due process are legion, the harrassment and intimidation and denial of representation - at gunpoint, no less - are disgusting, and violations of county, state and federal laws would fill a desk.
Oh yeah - and the conspiratiorial grand theft with deadly weapons under color of law should put all involved behind bars for the rest of their lives.
Should. In reality? :: spit ::
Is there any way she can sue? It does just seem so blatant; if she has no recourse it is depressing...and I don’t usually get depressed.
Hmm ~ bunny rabbits.
First they came for the bunny ranchers and I said nothing... Then they came for the dandilion farmers...
These SOB's need to held accountable. Those "private individuals" sound like PETA types to me.
When dealing with yout's of whatever persuasion your can usually break them down with a whiff of shot across the bow ~ she needs someone to come across in a deposition with incriminating stuff about the others.
As Fido noted the “Fudds” are “going to get the wabbits” - even if they have to abuse and kill them to “save” them.
Another case of idiots that can’t rear civilized children proclaiming themselves “experts” on how to rear/keep livestock. As a “farm family” we’ve been through it, (albeit on a much less publicized scale), with young dairy stock housed outdoors. >PS
We have too many busybodies in this country..People use to mind their own business, now they mind ours...Unless the windows are closed and kids in the car. STFU
My sister in law was traveling in China in college. She was at a market when she saw an American animal rights whacko trying to buy all the live rabbits form a couple who had a stand at the market. She finally struck a price with the woman. The man gave her a large burlap bag, full of recently slaughtered rabbits.
The ahacko ran screaming
Thanks for the post and for making me laugh.

Great point!
The notion that LEO’s are there to “Protect and Serve” died for me when that fact came out.
We’re on our own...
Bunny hunters...
Impressive. /s
Zoning laws are a prime enabler of local tyranny.
Here is a must read post that we all somehow missed.

When I was 4 my rural-raised parents brought home a big white “runny babbit” which I immediately assumed was a pet for me. After a summer of raising her, the day came that she became dinner. When they tried to kill her she started screaming and the neighbor (chief of police) called the cops, thinking it was a kid being hurt.
Needless to say, “tastes like chicken” did not cross my lips at dinner time.
Now that I am raising chickens and soon will be raising rabbits for food, I tell all the kids that the chickens all have the same name: “Tastes Like Chicken.” We will NOT be naming the rabbits at all.
bfl, gotta hit the hay
