Um...no. They are only publishing what people have provided.

Ya just gotta love those urban legends!!!

Hey! Let's start one right here!

The stain is going to announce that he's quitting after one term because the entire country is too stupid to understand his genius!! Until then, he's going to play all the golf he can!

I know! I saw the text of the teleprompter speech myself!

OK...now spread it around!

It seems to only sync the ones I have in my outlook contact list. I wonder if it is just displaying info on your computer, not necessarily public? (unless it is just coincidence the ones I see are people in my Outlook contacts and the ones not happen to have their privacy settings beefed up).

“Dear Facebook

Cancel my account.” Problem solved.

They are just convinced all of your information is theirs to publish as they wish. They seem to continually change the rules so you have to constantly “opt out” of their latest and greatest ideas to make your info public even after you said NO. Tried ‘em, canceled them within 6 mos.

Waste of time.

Why in the world would anyone put phone numbers in their profile, yet expect that information not to be public? If you don’t want your contact information public, don’t put phone numbers in your profile.

Remove Imported Contacts Imported contacts are displayed on your Invites and Imported Contacts page and synced mobile contacts are displayed in your Facebook Phonebook. Contacts may be used to improve the quality of friend suggestions for you and your friends. If you remove imported and synced contacts: ■ Friend suggestions for you and your friends may become less relevant. ■ Your phonebook will no longer include synced contacts, but will still display the contact info of friends who have included it on their profiles. Note: Before you click Remove, you need to make sure syncing is switched off. To do this, open the Facebook application on your iPhone, click the Friends icon in the main menu, then click Sync

Yet another breach of privacy by Facebook.

Nonsense...My phone number is not there.

I never even gave Facebook my phone numbers. I don't know anyone else who did either.

Everytime of late I have updated my mail server they keep asking do I want to link my contacts to my Facebook account and I say no.
This is where they get all these numbers and information.
The way the smart phones now work, especially if you using Android, is all this info is stored in your Goggle account which is backed up and synced at least once a day.
Disable this function on Facebook and your e-mail account.

Facebook

“Rumors claiming that your phone contacts are visible to everyone on Facebook are false. Our Contacts list, formerly called Phonebook, has existed for a long time. The phone numbers listed there were either added by your friends themselves and made visible to you, or you have previously synced your phone contacts with Facebook. Just like on your phone, only you can see these numbers.”

Anyone who give Facebook (or any other such application) their private information deserves what comes to them.

Sorry but this post is about 90% lie. Reality is thus:
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2390874,00.asp
It turns out that Facebook users who sync their phone contacts with the site see those numbers pop up in their contact lists. In addition, any contact details a Facebook friend (or even a non-friend, but more on that later) has made visible publicly will appear on users’ contact lists. Finally, contact details revealed by Facebook friends to other friends but not to the public also appear.

The phone numbers listed there were either added by your friends themselves and made visible to you, or you have previously synced your phone contacts with Facebook. Just like on your phone, only you can see these numbers.”

It is only the numbers of the people you have imported from your phone.

I suspect that the numbers may have been imported into Facebook inadvertently in most cases. The verbiage is as follows:

Facebook Phonebook displays contacts you have imported from your phone, as well as your Facebook friends.
If you would like to remove your mobile contacts from Facebook, you need to disable the feature on your mobile phone and visit this page.
