Good morning gardeners. This past week here in East Central Mississippi has been great, weather wise. There have been numerous and very beneficial pop-up T-storms almost every day, which have helped keep the temperatures down and my garden watered.
I hope TS Don will give some relief to those of you in drought stricken Texas. Forecasts are for it to dissipate in about 36 to 48 hours after landfall.
If you are a gardener or you are just starting out and are in need of advice or just encouragement please feel free to join in and enjoy the friendly discussion. Our Freeper community is full of gardeners, each with varying interests and skill levels from Master Gardener to novice.
I hope all your gardens are flourishing.
I’ve watched all most all of them.
Some of his road trips are fascinating.
He visited a truck farm in Florida that is almost entirely container grown in grow bags.
He buys compost by the truck full.
Somebody needs to send this video to the folks in Oak Park, Michigan! I wonder which community his garden is in in N. CA? It looks like my mother’s neighborhood, except she’s in Central CA. And it’s not as “toney” as the neighborhoods I know in N. CA. Perhaps Merced, or Modesto?
Makes sense...you get a real nice price break...
His beds are so deep that I don’t know how he tends them. Of course, he’s young and athletic, so it’s probably not a problem.
With a name like ‘John Koller’, I’ll bet his mom is Asian! Probably Japanese, or Philipino. I love his videos. Did you see the one about how he keeps people from stealing his food. It’s priceless!
Yuck! Do you live in the Madison area?
LOL! That crossed my mind earlier...
I am not messing with the business end of a pitchfork...funny how he plants stuff that people don't recognize as 'edible' by the walk...
HEY! I was on Chincoteague ‘bout four years back. Not during the pony round-up, but just at the extreme end of “season”.
My husband was pretty bored, but I really liked the island.
Was the turnout for the pony auction massive?
We were turned away because we had cats with us...
From ? The island?
Yes...the island. We were told we could not come onto the island because we had cats with us...even though they were in a carrier. (Roughly fifteen years ago...)
Yes, but not near any of the big party areas, and kind of off the beaten track.
Spread your arms and hold you breath
And always trust your cape.
Nice song
I dont know about the turnout for the auction yesterday, but the estimate for Wedniseday Swim was 40,000, probably half that for the return swim today - which is one of the reasons I prefer Friday to Wednesday.
To be honest, I prefer Chincoteague at any time but Pony week, but come Labor Day, we do get most of our roads back for the locals. LOL!!!
If It’s Tourist Season, Why Can’t We Shoot Them?????
BTW, we don’t “live” on Chincoteague, but we might as well because of the amount of time we spend there :)
Good evening Red. Thanks for the thread. Left early this AM to go to a Summit in St. Louis. Just got in.
The heat has finally forced me to give everything getting afternoon sun a really good deep watering. Didn’t get home in time before dark to check everything today, but I’ll get out early tomorrow before heading back to the city.
Ate my first ear of corn from my raised beds yesterday. Prepared a mess of Green Beans before leaving this AM. Have some green tomatoes from the branches I stuck in the dirt this Spring. Most things are growing pretty well, since a lot of the areas have partial shade.
Have a great weekend. God Bless.
FLORIDA UPDATE: got my seeds planted this week in my little cups. Roundup is doing it’s job in the garden.. Setting up for a Sept planting in the garden!

Anyone else try the Yellow/Orange skinned hubbard squash? Last season (spring season in south FL) I had the best luck with them.. I had well over 40 of them.. Many over 5 lbs each... This season (Fl fall season) I am going to try realy hubbard.. Yes the blue ones... My sister sent me some. If they turn out 1/2 as well as the orange once from the spring garden I will have way to many... the real blue hubbard are 10+ lbs each... http://img839.imageshack.us/img839/608/squashi.jpg
