I was free diving off the Berry Islands in 1961, went down about 35 feet watching a friend who was using scuba. All of a sudden something cut off the sunlight. I looked up and a big whale shark was just gliding by.
They are an awe inspiring creature.

The whales are going to reproduce???
But what about the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, and trans-gendered whales???
We are frequently told stories about how there are gay animals. And that these gay animals hint at how natural homosexuality in humans is.
So this story should talk about the gay and lesbian whales, if we’re going to give equality to the whole spectrum of sexual behaviors in wildlife. It’s hetero-normative to talk about mating and all that, when that’s strictly hetero behavior.

We are frequently told stories about how there are gay animals. I don't know what kind of books you read or stories you listen to, but I have never really heard that nor do I care. One is reminded of the idiom regarding excessive protestation.

San Francisco (go figure) did a study about their seagull population. They found there to be gay seagulls in the flock that have taken mates.

On the other hand, they CAN suck every last, little bit of plankton out of a square mile of water, so there’s that...
