It sounds like something from a Hollywood science fiction film: a race that is half human, half ape.
But leading scientists are today demanding tough new rules to prevent the nightmare scenario becoming a reality.
In a hard-hitting report, they warn that research is close to pushing ethical boundaries and that extreme attempts to give laboratory animals human attributes must be banned.
While talking chimpanzees and gun-toting gorillas are currently confined to movies, the academics say the dangers of disturbing animal-human experiments are real.
He added: We are trying to get this out in the open before anything has happened.
The Academy of Medical Scientists review was set up to look at the growing number of experiments

I found it ironic that the actor playing opposite Heston in the most recent remake was a vehement anti-gunner, who said he was “uncomfortable” playing in the scene with Heston.
And the scene itself was an explanation of the utility of GUNS to thwart the strong oppressing the weak.
In the scene, Heston’s “ape” stated that firearms could not be allowed to be re-discovered, or else the apes’ supremacy due to their strength would no longer be enforceable.
When will Hollywood figure out that Americans swarm to films about heroic Americans? -and that American men will pay $10 to see Olivia Wilde trim her toenails for ninety minutes?
Best remake Ive seen in a LONG time was True Grit hands down!
Good movie, but not in the same universe as the original. Not even the same movie, really. My favorite remake of all time is Scorcese's "Cape Fear," with DeNiro, Nick Nolte and Jessica Lang.
Those meddling fiends! They’ve brought back...the Minotaur!!
Dont be a kneejerk liberal.
The intention of his post was clear enough that he felt the need to include the "(evil grin)" disclaimer.
Past experience with you has led me to conclude that you are probably mentally retarded or deficient in some way, so I'm going to be the good Christian and ignore you for the rest of this thread.
There are communities on the Internet that will welcome this news.
Why would anyone want to make more muslims? Don’t we have enough?
That dumb movie made the 1970s sequels look good. Apes /Gorillas matching around with guns in 'Beneath' was pretty entertaining.
ah... playground stuff! Great fun!
"I know you are, but what am I?"
The Soviets already tried this, and failed, thankfully. Tells you pretty much what you need to know about Soviets and their modern intellectual descendants.

I guess you never heard of Oliver, the so-called "humanzee" then, right?
Charlton Heston is a personal hero of mine, but he certainly did not come out of the original smelling like a rose.
More proof of horrible man-animal hybrids: Tim Geithner in the morning:
I have. That was the source of my information - the link from his wikipedia entry. I don’t think it was mentioned there, but I’d heard that there were post French Revolutionary suggestions to try it more crudely, which were quashed by the then Pope. Sick, sick people. Pre- ‘Enlightenment’ it would have incurred the death penalty.
If you’ve heard of Oliver, then you’re probably as bugged as I am with the way shows like “Ancient Aliens” have made the History Channel utterly unwatchable, right?
This thread has gotten me to thinking: What if those ancient aliens were successful, and the result was Bigfoot? I’ll pause here to allow the ramifications of this theory to fully set it.
I don’t know about ancient aliens, ancient astronauts, bigfoot, yeti, that kind of thing. I’d guess there are some prosaic explanations for the as yet inexplicable, though I’m open-minded especially around things like yeti, or alma being included in Tibetan medical manuals that have no other fantastic creatures in them.
I haven’t seen much of the History Channel, so I can’t commiserate or even relate. Gotten a bit ahistorical has it?
Then there really are monsters under the bed!
“They finally really did it... The maniacs... They blew it up!”
