AG Holder discussed "Project Gun Runner" in April 2009 in Mexico. BUSTED!

Attorney General Eric Holder at the Mexico/United States Arms Trafficking Conference CUERNAVACA, MEXICO ~ Thursday, April 2, 2009

Remarks as prepared for delivery.

First, let me express my thanks to Attorney General Medina Mora and Secretary of Government Gomez Mont for making this conference possible.

This is my first trip to another country as Attorney General. I wanted to come to Mexico to deliver a single message: We stand shoulder-to-shoulder with you in this fight against the narcotics cartels. The United States shares responsibility for this problem and we will take responsibility by joining our Mexican counterparts in every step of this fight.

And, together, we will win – thanks in large part to the courage of my Mexican colleagues here today, who are on the front lines every day, and with whom I am proud to collaborate.

The topic that has been addressed over the past two days could not be more important – the development of an arms trafficking prosecution and enforcement strategy on both sides of the border.

I would like to thank the Mexican and U.S. experts who have worked so hard on this issue. On our side, Secretary Napolitano and I are committed to putting the resources in place to increase our attack on arms trafficking into Mexico.

Last week, our administration launched a major new effort to break the backs of the cartels. My department is committing 100 new ATF personnel to the Southwest border in the next 100 days to supplement our ongoing Project Gunrunner, DEA is adding 16 new positions on the border, as well as mobile enforcement teams, and the FBI is creating a new intelligence group focusing on kidnapping and extortion. DHS is making similar commitments, as Secretary Napolitano will detail.

But as today’s conference has emphasized, the problem of arms trafficking will not be stopped at the border alone. Rather, as our experts emphasized, this is a problem that must be met as part of a comprehensive attack against the cartels – an attack in depth, on both sides of the border, that focuses on the leadership and assets of the cartel. This is the type of full-bore, prosecution-driven approach that the U.S. Department of Justice took to dismantle La Cosa Nostra – once the most powerful organized crime group operating in the United States. With partners like those we have here today, I am confident that together, we will defeat these narcotics cartels in exactly the same way. I am proud to stand with you, and to join you in this fight. Thank you again for inviting me here.

D’Amato and the Senate Banking Committee went through the same crap during the Whitewater hearings. By using the wrong terms, they allowed the Beast to skate without provably perjuring herself

WHAT smoking gun? Project Gunrunner was a legitimate above-board law-enforcement operation. Project Fast And Furious was the illegitimate subversive illegal perversion of that operation. “This” is the former, which Holder inherited; the latter is what he secretly injected into it.

So where’s the smoking gun?

hate to have to disagree with you, but I have been following this since early february, and have read every article and document pertaining to this...project gunwalker was the name given to this by the examiner reporter that initially broke this story, not a “media hack”....I am fully aware of “gunrunner” and “F&F”, and know what each was about. Since you are relatively new to this criminal enterprise, I will give you the quick breakdown...complicit in the murder of a federal agent, illegal arms smuggling, violation of international treaties, lying under oath(that would be perjury) and obstruction of justice....the major players snagged to date are holder, napolitano and clinton, not to mention a host of deputy directors, district directors and assistants....do you really think all of these people will go to prison to protect fubo? melson already flipped, he refused to be thrown under the bus..Issa has successfully blocked all the exits, and has painstakingly built a case....you might want to read the entire timeline. It is available from the “media hack” you refer to...........

Read the whole speech. He says he is launching a new initiative along the border. What was that? F and F!

WHAT IS THE MERIDA INITIATIVE? The US Congress passed legislation in late June 2008 to provide Mexico with $400 million and Central American countries with $65 million that year alone, for the specific purpose of "fighting drug wars." The initiative was announced 22 Oct 2007 and signed into law June 30, 2008.

REFERENCE America's Third War: Is the U.S. Arming Mexican Cartels?
FoxNews.com | May 31, 2011 | William La Jeunesse

If you ever watch video or look at pictures of Mexican drug wars, you see some pretty heavy weapons. It is a war being waged with rockets and plastic explosives, not pea shooters and Saturday Night Specials.

Consider these incidents:- A M26A2 fragmentation grenade used against a U.S. Consulate in Mexico in 2008 - Explosive projectiles and 21 grenades found during a raid in Guadalupe - An unexploded grenade and pull ring used to attack a TV station in Monterrey - Automatic weapons, including U.S.-made M16s, found at a cartel crime scene in May 2009- U.S. military-issued ammunition found in a cartel raid in Reynosa in November 2008. You can't buy this stuff at a U.S. gun store. So where do the cartels get it?

According to leaked diplomatic cables, there are three sources.

1. US Defense Department shipments to Latin America, known and tracked by the US State Department as "foreign military sales."

2. Weapons ordered by the Mexican government, tracked by the State Department as "direct commercial sales."

3. Aging, but plentiful arsenals of military weapon stores in Honduras, Guatemala and Nicaragua.

Even though these facts were well-known by the Obama administration, including Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Attorney General Eric Holder, it blamed much of the violence in Mexico on US gun shops. "More than 90% of the guns recovered in Mexico come from the United States, many from gun shops that line our border," President Obama said in February 2009.

That was contested, but few listened to gun store owners and former vets like Lynn Kartchner, owner of Allsafe Security, a gun shop in Douglas, Ariz...(Excerpt) Read more at foxnews.com

In that quote, Holder is taking ownership - bragging to the mexicans - of the expansion of Gunrunner and it becoming part of a coordinated strategy with DEA, FBI, and DHS. Hard to take credit for expanding and funding the program, then turning around a year later and saying, “well I didn’t know HOW they were gonna do it!”

It’s “our administration”s baby.

just my 2 cents.

They are trying to conflate Project GunRunner and Operation Fast and Furious so that they are linked. Bush started Project GunRunner, and I've already heard from multiple places that Bush started Operation Fast and Furious even though it is no way accurate, as proof they pull out Project GunRunner. Their intent to to make these two separate and different programs the same in discussions. Why would any conservative want to be part of that?

Project GunRunner was a legitimate law enforcement operation with known logical goals that were supported by the actions of the ATF. Operation Fast and Furious's stated goal is illogical, and as a law enforcement operation, it served no purpose whatsoever.

Making the two synonymous helps this administration cover up the crimes that were committed.

Further it's idiotic to think that Holder didn't know about this operation. It was thought of, created, planned and funded by this administration with the only logical intention of renewing an expanded assault weapons ban.

This speech isn't a smoking gun in any way, but it is yet another speech given about the evils of gazillions of American guns going to Mexico before there were a lot of guns going to Mexico. After there were a few critical analysis articles that demonstrated that they actually weren't that many American guns in Mexico suddenly they create an operation that actually send guns into Mexico? Nothing suspicious there.

No need to do that,
Holder has an internal investigation under way.
He’ll get to the bottom of this and let us all know what’s up any moment now.
Honest.

You don't know that and he doesn't say that. For all you know he was talking about new coffee machines in the ATF break rooms.

Is it a logical inference? Sure. Is it a smoking gun? No.

Yeah, whatever, keep believing that.

Anyone with a clue knows what was going on here. Between the stim bill money, this statement, the speeches with the lies about guns coming from US gun stores, etc, its obvious he was in on this from day 1.

Keep believing what exactly?

I do know what is going on here at least as well as you do. I know what fast and furious was designed to do, who was behind it, and I had to put up with people calling me crazy for saying so...before I ever saw you on a thread discussing Fast and Furious BTW. You need to chill out and figure out who your friends are on this issue and then figure out what actual evidence is rather than one of many speeches Holder gave (Obama, Clinton etc. all gave similar speeches some as early as 2008) to start drumming up support for a new and expanded assault weapons ban.
