Texas executes Mexican after court stay rejected

A Mexican national was executed Thursday for the rape-slaying of a teenager after the U.S. Supreme Court turned down a White House-supported appeal to spare him in a death penalty case where Texas justice triumphed over international treaty concerns. Humberto Leal, 38, received lethal injection for the 1994 murder of Adria Sauceda. She was fatally bludgeoned with a piece of asphalt. Leal was pronounced dead at 6:21 p.m. EDT (2221 GMT).

I worry about this for one reason. The perp had (past tense, I love it.) been living in the US since he was two and NOT a citizen. However, this case might be used to strengthen the case for anchor babies and the very young being smuggled into the US being treated as US citizens. I think he should have been treated as a Mexican citizen and allowed extradition. This may be morally wrong, but politically, we should be steadfast on who is and is NOT a citizen.

Indeed the only sin that can’t be pardoned in eternity (this doesn’t have bearing upon Caesar’s procedures on this mortal coil) is the sin of refusing to accept God’s offer of pardon in Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit serves as the instrument of extending that offer, so that unpardonable sin is sometimes referred to as the “blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.” It is a unique sin.

Yes good point. Jesus came to save souls from hell, not bodies from Caesar.

Naw, we are rejoicing in REAL JUSTICE being done. This guy did a horrendous MURDER. The State responded to protect its innocent citizens. That is why we have LAWS, duh.

I was wondering what Texas would've done if the US Supreme Court had ordered a stay for this execution.
Would Texas have gone ahead and executed him anyway?

There comes a time when people have had enough of the nonsense coming from some of the courts. Maybe this would've been a line in the sand.

And a side note to bambi-
How can any man, especially one with two daughters try to save the ass of a rapist/murderer? Shame on you-just shame on you.

One of those seeking a stay of execution for this piece of crap was former President George W. Bush.

Any Bushbots care to defend Gringo Jorge's support of a stay?

No more Bushes ever!

Current legal view is that being actually born on US turf (the so called “anchor baby”) grants citizenship. Coming in as a child already born however young without ever undergoing naturalization, does not. I think it’s reasonable that if a person in this second category makes an effort to pass as American, a state should not be blamed if it takes that at face value and has been presented with no reason to believe differently. That should be common sense even to the U.N. (but U.N. and sense are not commonly partners).

I don't believe in celebrating death for any reason whatsoever.

However, there is a decisive difference between executing a convicted murderer-rapist, and killing a blameless, innocent person.

The "Good" thief executed next to Jesus said, "I deserve to be executed, but you don't." He seems to have had a moment of moral insight and faith at that point. And Jesus did not contradict this. Rather, He promised him what only He can give: life eternal.

I do think Jesus outlined one unique reason to be against the death penalty: He never said that nobody is bad enough to be executed, but He did say nobody is "good" enough, innocent enough, to carry it out. Ceertainly a political power that authorizes the execution of unborn babies lacks an objective sense of justice, and an objective sense of justice is necessary for the just taking of a life.

In any case, you won't find me cheering and jeering as a man dies. I will pray for the repose of the soul of Humberto Leal.

>The only logical conclusion is that while capital punishment is permissible to governments for defense against evil, and stands as a symbol of vengeance of blood, it isn’t the “must” that you’re reading into this.

Not so; it is a “standing order” from the Commander of nations. There was, as you cited, an explicit “stay your hand” type command from God; and one must NOT make the mistake of claiming that David went unpunished — the whole Absolom thing was a direct result of the Punishment.

And if Casey Anthony had been tried in Texas, she’d be sitting on death row keeping his seat warm now!

The problem with your little scenario is Jesus pardoned a woman who had committed adultery...she didn’t bludgeon somebody to death not torture somebody with a stick with a screw on the end of it in somebody’s privates.

And by the way, neither have I so much as harmed a hair on anybody elses head. So I get to throw the first damned stone!

However Leal did, and he was executed according to God’s law...”If any man deliberately sheds the blood of another, then take him and shed his blood, also....” And that is how justice is served upon a murderer. And we already give the murderer the benefit of having to commit murder along with another crime before we execute him.

I am very happily pro-life and a Christian. I was very pro-life for Sandra Saucedo. Seems she didn’t get an opportunity for a trial before she was murdered, much less be mirandized and offered the services of the Mexico Consulate. You never bothered to mention her either, did ya? Your hypocrisy is blatant and your knowledge of Christianity is false.

What’s more Leal was offered to repent and be saved before he was executed. That too was more than Sandra Saucedo got.

And you just proved yourself a fool by accusing others of hypocrisy.
