Razors are expensive and get dull way too quick and I started to think about a way to make them last much longer.
When we shave, we are not only cutting the bristle but we are also getting oils and dead skin on the blade.
This lead me to thinking what would clean the blades from this stuff. So I stared experimenting and came up the perfect solution...91% Isopropyl Alcohol.
I put some in container which I could put a lid on to eliminate evaporation. Then I used an old blade which I was about to throw away and vigorously rinsed it in the solution then in water.
I did this several times while I shaved and couldn't believe how smooth my face felt. BTW, it wasn't a top dollar razor, it was a Gillete Good News and I'm still using it after five more shaves.

Wearing a beard is like playing a violin; Not one man in a hundred can do it well and done badly its best not done at all.
My dogs don’t seem to care. I do trim sometimes to go to town.
Nice pic. Now, isn’t it time for someone to post a picture of Michelle Obama?
Ok, seriously, I have a Fusion. I replace the blades quarterly, keep them sharp by rinsing them in 91 isopropyl after every use. Biggest issue is all the gunk that builds up behind the blades after 3 months, regardless of the isopropyl.
I inadvertantly stumbled upon extending the life of the Good News disposable razor. I’d been working a great deal, didn’t have time to hit the grocery, ran out of shaving cream and kept forgetting to get more. Had to shave with whatever I could find for several mornings in a row. Ended up using a water-soluble skin lotion. Worked pretty well even if messy. The blade lasted two weeks. Usually dull after four days.
Is it the beard that gets trimmed of the dogs?
Yer both wimps.....BIC lighters are fast, leave NO stubble and I get 2-3 years of daily shaves from each one.....wimps indeed.
Yes.
Yup, that’s what I do, the Suave conditioner. I just use the overflow from my hair.
I’m surprised the ‘cheap’ FReepers haven’t discussed Save-A-Blade yet! I bought one in Oct 2009 and haven’t purchased blades since.
The first blade I used the Save-A-Blade on was a Schick Quattro. It lasted from Oct 2009 to last month. I shave daily too. There’s a few tricks to using it like rocking the blade back and forth or inserting at differnet angles to polish all the blades. It takes AA batteries and I use a rechargeable battery in mine.
I have 3 new Quattros and 2 new Fusion blades in the cabinet, leftovers from 2009 purchases. At the current rate I won’t have to buy new blades until 2017.
Welcome to Obamaville.
I live close to a welding shop...the metal grinder works very well.
I saw a couple of those driving around Sonoma County about a month ago. Not that one, but similar Burma Shave signage. It was great, I loved it!
OH CRAP!!!, I shouldn’t have posted about my tarp roof, an enviromentist just came and took my tarp away.
Never let anything grow on your face that grows wild on your ass.
So, to wear a beard, you have to shave your ass? That must be awkward. ;-)
