The James Bond film series ended the 1970s with one of its most extravagent entries, Moonraker, where James Bond went into outer space. For the first Bond film of a new decade, producer Albert R. Broccoli opted to bring the gentleman agent back down to earth in For Your Eyes Only.
Moonraker hadn’t used much of Ian Fleming. For Your Eyes Only would tap the plots of two Fleming short stories, For Your Eyes Only and Risico. Both had been published in the same 1960 collection of short stories by Fleming. Broccoli brought back screenwriter Richard Maibaum, who hadn’t been involved with Moonraker, to write the new movie. Broccoli collaborated with Broccoli’s stepson Michael G. Wilson on the script.

The last Flemingist Bond movie released 06/26/81
I liked the title song to the movie sung my Sheena Easton.
It was entertaining and a lot better than some James Bond films.

Bill Conti wrote the soundtrack and it was one of the best of the series. Definitely a product of its time, but very tight and in tune with the story.

Summer 1981. This was the first Bond film I saw in the theater with my father, I was about 7. I remember how utterly shocking the scene was to my young eyes where the Havelocks were brutally assassinated. Dumping Blofeld down the smokestack was a bit silly, though.
Bill Conti held his own with a decent score that worked (though it was far afield from something John Barry would’ve done). I got used to hearing various clips from the score for years as it was rehashed for segments to the Conti scored “Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous.”
In hindsight, Moore probably should’ve made this one his last when he was still somewhat believable (at 54) in the role. This one at least redeemed him from the embarrassingly half-baked “Moonraker.”
Wonder why they took the headrests out? Odd.
One might say that scene was more the way Connery would’ve done it. No more Mr. Nice Guy there for Rog. Too bad they couldn’t have had him do it this way instead for all those prior silly ‘70s entries.
Must have had some issues with camera angles or the like. No other reason I can imagine.
I saw him in an interview once and that point was raised. Moore said he didn't like the harder edge.
So she came up with that title, LOL!
Old Bond movies are usually very good on the details, and very car oriented. It just seems sloppy.
She was cute, if a bit flaky. Carole Bouquet was much hotter, though. Hard to believe they were only a year apart in age. Bouquet was far more mature. Word to the wise, don’t look up any recent pics of Miss Johnson, you’ll be sorry.
