It was only in late March when Mozilla released Firefox 4.0, but under their new development practices that are similar to that of Google's Chrome web-browser, Firefox 5.0 was released yesterday.
Firefox 5 is delivered under what Mozilla refers to as a "rapid release development cycle" and this release carries over 1,000 improvements in just about three months of development. Among the changes this time around is the Do-Not-Track privacy feature for the Android port of Firefox, improved add-ons, CSS Animations support, and many other new features.

I had some speed/memory trouble with 4.0.1. The upgrade helped a lot.
Mine asked if I wanted to upgrade. I declined until I heard from others.
Mine did as well. That surprised me since I normally disable automatic upgrades of programs.
Lucky tomcat!
I just now updated and lost my Google Toolbar, AGAIN. Every time they release a newer version, the Google add-on is not compatible until just before they release an even newer version, and then the newer version isn’t compatible again. I don’t get it.
I have it. I’m on an older machine, using XP, and the only difference I see is that if 1 tab gets hung up, you’re stuck until it clears up or you kill the window. Any other windows you opened thru or with it also then shuts down. I see no big diff...
I saw a google ad regarding Google Chrome, and it had a really pro-gay message. Anybody else see this?
I seem to remember hearing the words “hate” and “homophobia”.
Rendering and loading was abysmally slow under 4. Better under 5 but still not close to 3.x.
Just ordered a Dell XPS laptop with an i7 processor so that should speed things up a bit :)
I need to learn how to post links, but if you use google and type in “Google Chrome supports gays”, you will see a whole list of hits. It is aimed at teens, with the title “It gets better”.
Wow... and they say computer nerds don't get any... that cat is surely enjoying the afterglow...
Real Player? Now, there’s a blast from the past.
Good to know, I slowed right down when I upgraded to 4 - now stuck on Chrome - will pop back into Firefox and see what's going on now.
with my XP system , 2 gig ram, its uses a tad more memory(40mb range) but is more stable after the browser reaches 650-700+mb memory with perhaps 50-60 tabs open. Firefox 4.0 would make the whole system wobbbly and slow at 600-650mb ram range. So yes 5.0 is a better spinning top or is more stable with more tabs open. Start up times with many tabs open is faster also.
I’d love to rub the kitty.
Well..do you KNOW anything about GOOGLE? I’m not surprised Firefox “loses” it....I sure wish EVERYTHING GOOGLE would go away.

I didn’t see the ad you refer to, but it wouldn’t surprise me.
Google has done a lot of things over the past few years leaving little doubt about their progressive ideological worldview. Yes, a progressive corporation.
Yeah, mine updated automatically, and it seems exactly the same.
Notedly slower to start and had to rehack my weather addon again but once it’s running I’m not seeing any huge differences. I’d say none at all, but I did find one very minor cosmetic change in how it handles tab rearrangement with a particular number, in a particular res and situation.
