HAWTHORNE, Fla. -- A 74-year-old man attacked by pit bulls Friday morning had his right arm amputated, his left arm partially amputated and suffered severe facial injuries, Putnam County deputies said. Deputies were called to the 200 block of Old Hawthorne Road in Hawthorne about 11 a.m. and found Roy McSweeney severely injured. McSweeney was taken to Shands Hospital in Gainesville and was in surgery Friday afternoon. His condition was not available. Investigators said the two dogs responsible for the attack belonged to McSweeney's neighbor.
They said the owner of the dogs gave both of them to authorities, and the pit bulls were euthanized and taken to the Putnam County Health Department to be tested for rabies.
Deputies said no further details could be released. .
The poor man. Prayers.
Not the dogs fault.
Put the dogs owner to sleep.
Not the dogs fault.
Put the dogs owner to sleep.
Here in Boca Raton, last December, my 35 lb. Cocker Spaniel was attacked by a 120 lb. Cane Corso. I was standing right there, and grabbed the Cane Corso by the collar and pounded on its ribs attempting to get it to break off the attack. It didn’t even notice I was there. Fortunately, with the help of neighbors my dog was extracted from the jaws of this vicious animal. $3.5K in vet bills later, my dog is now fully recovered. I am suing the owner (who had 6 citations against the 2 Cane Corso/Italian Mastiffs in her nearby home.) When I collect on the judgment - about 1/3rd will go for a compact sidearm and a concealed carry permit.
The recklessness and indifference of some dog owners is breathtaking. No sense of responsibility whatsoever.
Chet, is that you?
Sorry...LMAO..U just getting to the party??...U ought to see it with people...fruck the dogs...You're lucky
There’s an update here: http://www.gainesville.com/article/20110610/ARTICLES/110619976/-1/news?p=1&tc=pg&tc=ar
“He was in his yard doing yard work when the dogs jumped over the fence and attacked him,” Greenwood said, adding that the fence was thin wire. “An investigator said the surgery would take six to eight hours.”
“The dogs were owned by Deanna Blitch, of 261 Old Hawthorne...”
“Authorities have twice dealt with Blitch over dog bites, Greenwood added.”
Neighbors said that the dogs were always ‘running the street’ etc.
I am glad that he survived, of course, but I am shocked that one could survive the blood loss from having an arm ripped off, other arm mauled, and then face wounds. I would have feared bleed out by having an arm removed. Whew! Prayers for that man - he must have believed he would never survive this. Imagine dying this way.

Things that make you go “Hmmmmmmm.....”
I wasn’t familiar with Cane Corso’s and was trying to imagine the size you spoke of. Looked it up on Wiki and skimmed the profile:
“Because of their need to keep the status quo, a Corso often dislikes new things, animals, and people, so the owner must be careful when introducing the dog to new places and people. “
Wow - 120lb dog breed that dislikes new things, animals and people? Glad YOU and your dog survived that!
What has four legs, one arm, and a smile?...
Yep, I think that is Chet. Exact same writing style (ie, excessive use of commas). Plus:

I didn’t know Chet was ZOTTED. I guess I should have known since these type of articles have almost disappeared. How the heck do you get ZOTTED when all you post are 10 Pit Bull attack articles a day? Do you now what he did to get the boot?
Blitch? What a name.
These dogs must all be euthanized.
I have had to deal personally with a member of the ‘breed of peace’
You do NOT want these things around your family.
They are unpredictable....calm and sweet until the day they kill your child.
Did he lose both his hands?
“his left arm partially amputated” according to the linked article. I hope it can be re-attached. No word on the condition of his hand. The last update was at 5pm today so maybe they don’t know yet. Seems like they would have noted if his hand was detached in the original article.
Can’t imagine the impact on the body and mind of a 74 year old - the unreality of it etc. Having to ‘get used to having’ one arm (hope they save the other!) at the age of 74 when he was originally hale enough to do yard work? Having to rehab (if they save the arm!) that arm at that age!? Will that guy ever feel safe in his own yard again? Would he be able to live on his own anymore? Assuming, and praying, he lives?

Don’t look now, but “Chet” (aka Jim726) just got *~re-ZOTTED~*
