Welcome to Free Republic.

I do hope to see change in China as well. The whole world would be better for it.

I had a talk a year ago with a scholar from China.

Half the drinking water is undrinkable from pollution.
Massive amounts of girls were aborted.
Many were only being paid $100 a month.
Take something and you get your hands cut off.
People living in many cases in little areas the size of a closet and living mostly outdoors.
Little regulations on what they do to make a product, so we get lead paint toys.
Three shifts, they use two to make products for who ever they have contracts with. The third shift they take the label off and make their own stuff.
We know they don’t respect copyright laws.

We can go on and on.

All those men with few women equal IMO war eventually.

LOTS of issues with China IMO.

I believe you are a bit mistaken about not being any demonstrations in China. Last year there were some 20,000 to 30,000 localized demonstrations across China against food prices, illegal confiscation of property, corruption and other events. Only the really big ones get noticed.

Remember the big demonstration about the girl who was mistreated by a cadre member in northern China. That got reported because it got ugly.

Most demonstrations are put down very quickly and are not reported.

I shall get references if you need them.

Welcome to the forum.

But how could this be? We’re always told here in America by our news media that socialism always creates happy, healthy, safe, prosperous and well-fed citizens, and that every person working for the government is an honest, dedicated, public servant with nothing but society’s interests at heart.

Seriously, about 53% of Americans believe that crap, judging from the last presidential election.

This is just one of many sites that try to keep track of demonstrations and protests in China. I saw a couple in Chengdu when I was just hanging out and shopping.

Thank you for this insider report, XuShu. Just reading BBC would not have told us the reasons this man did it. They report that the government simply dismissed it.

Are you in China? It is valuable to have information from people like yourself, as the official reports will always be compromised. I lived 4 years in Taiwan just after Chiang-Kai-Sheck died and was replaced by his son Jiang Jie-Shr.

Welcome to Free Republic.

I've *PING*ed a couple of possible playmates.

Maybe they would be willing to instruct you on the ways of this site; and help you with the difficulties of a VERY irregular language, American English.

You might also consider logging into the following site:

http://www.democraticunderground.com

and telling them that not everything in life is Skittles and Pink Unicorns [note: sarcastic term for self-deluded optimism on their part, involving sweet candies and mythological creatures in feminine colors] over in China.

They are very likely to be *shocked* and to accuse you of working for George W. Bush...

Welcome to Free Republic. Thank you for coming here to talk with us. I hope there is no danger for you in doing this.

I have a friend who does business in China. He is there now because his factory building has been vacant for a long time and he is afraid it may be taken away from him.

I don't understand how the government can be communist and in control of everything, but the economy seems to be capitalistic and people are allowed to do business and become successful.

It is unusual to see the many golf courses being built with so many big expensive homes around them and hear that people have little freedom. I'd like to hear more about what you see and how it is living there.

Welcome to FR. Thanks for the article.

In America we call this type of thing, "eminent domain." Now check out a SCOTUS ruling called Kelo

We have problems with our government too...

Welcome to Free Republic.

I hope that you are using a means to obscure your connectivity, such as a proxy service with browser information scrubbing.

If you would like some free advice (worth every yuan that it cost you), I would suggest that you post under a different username each time, as we have seen occasionally posters in uncomfortable circumstances do over the years.

Also, I would suggest that you don't follow any pattern in how you access Free Republic; you might want to limit both your reading and your posting to an infrequent basis, and make sure that you drop your cookies as soon as you do post.

Finally, don't create a profile page. Your English is remarkably good for someone in Red China, which is a very distinct characteristic. Adding any more information, such as that can be gleaned from a profile page, is not a good idea.

The article says that three bomb blasts in different locations went off at around the same time. So they must have had timers or some means of delaying detonation or remotely triggering them all at the same time. It seems to me it would require either a sophisticated bomb builder, or more than one person, to accomplish this. Seems unlikely that this is just a disgruntled citizen who had his home taken away by an unfair eminent domain practice.
