As newly minted princess Kate Middleton greeted Michelle Obama in the ornate surroundings of Buckingham Palace Tuesday, it was hard to believe she was wearing a $340 dress from British retailer Reiss a frock any commoner could buy.
Middletons appearance in the nude-hued Shola dress sparked a shopping frenzy, causing the retailers Web site to crash and the dress to immediately sell out. And now style watchers are hailing the Duchess of Cambridge as the paupers princess the first stylish royal to embrace affordable trends, and the perfect recession-era symbol.

“Are you seeing huge font for the replies, too?”
Yes, giant font, all bold.
"I saw it in the winder and I just had to have it."
Funniest Carol Burnett ever.

Note the headline negelcts to mention the Michael Kors skirt.
Gee, wonder why...?
I am, too, for every thread I go to on FR. When I refresh it goes back to normal—thanfully.
thanfully=thankfully.
(Refresh AND Spellcheck are my friends.)
Speaking as a male FReeper; Kate would look good in a potato sack.
My sister and I were comparing Wookie’s tramp-ish shoes to Kate’s classic, tasteful ones.
You can take the girl out of the ghetto, but can’t take the ghetto out of the girl.
It’s the stuff about Romney above.
I suspect someone left the “font size” and “b” HTML without closing it.
I reported it the best I knew how.
I was wondering who’d be the first to mention the C.B. skit on this thread. True: Funniest ever!
Michelle’s dress wasn’t bad in absolute terms, but it was inappropriate to wear a shiny material with little glittery things on it for a daytime meeting. Note what the queen, the Duchess of Cornwall, and the Duchess of Cambridge are wearing: non-shiny fabrics cut in simple, sedate lines. Simplicity = timeless elegance. Wearing that outfit means Michelle is dressing to impress and doesn’t know what’s in quiet good taste. All she would have to do to dress nicely and stop disgracing us is to look at the well-dressed intelligent women around her in DC. There are plenty of role models.
She has also got to get past the idea that wearing a big foofy skirt is going to conceal the size of her backside and hips. It doesn’t. Straight, slim, classic clothes help that more than anything except a little restraint at the dinner table.
Those legs look bare and hairy.”
That is so gross. Let’s at least she never raises her arms over her head unless she is wearing something with sleeves. Bet she has more body hair than BO.
Kate could wear a potato sack and look good...
Now that there is funny stuff.
I went screaming into the bathroom, closed the door and hid for two hours. Then I came back to look at the picture again. I just checked my blood pressure. It has dropped 80 points since I’ve realized . . .
I hope this is the female Freeper contingent chiming in.
Yep. I don’t think we have any male freepers who know and care about stuff like that. Fortunately. ;-)
That article says the necklace runs $2450. For rhinestones and metal. Dang! I have one similar that is a Betsey Johnson that I think I paid $50 for on clearance. Lol
Out of everything she has ever worn I like the Ralph Lauren black dress and that necklace the most.
Cheers!
Here’[s something else to consider...Last I knew designers generally don’t have ready-to-wear available for a woman with Michelle Obama’s dress size. If she’s having this stuff custom made, it’s gonna run even more.
