Remember how Steven Tyler has been saying that Aerosmith would perform with James Durbin at the Idol finale? Well it looks like he's the only band member who wants to do that. The Boston Herald reports that the other members of Aerosmith don't want to do it because they'd rather wait to promote something for their band. Besides, the last time we saw Joe Perry was when he played with Sanjaya at the season 6 finale. How could you possibly top that? (Answer: You can't)

Aerosmith nixes Idol gig
Band wont back up Stevens Fox-y promise
Aerosmith, fronted by new American Idol judge Steven Tyler, told the shows producers last night to Dream On the Bad Boys of Boston refuse to reunite onstage during the May 26 finale of the uber-popular Fox TV singing contest.
Sources close to the band told the Track that the four other members of Aerosmith werent interested in playing the gig despite Tylers repeated pronouncements that the rockers would perform at the crowning of this seasons American Idol.
While no official reason was given for taking a pass on the highly rated national TV gig, sources said Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton, Joey Kramer and Brad Whitford would rather appear on Idol when the band has something to promote like an upcoming tour or a new album.
For the past nine months, the band has been on somewhat of a Permanent Vacation while Tyler soaked up the spotlight as Americas favorite judge on the retooled Fox reality show.
Theres been an attempt at songwriting in La-La by Steven and some members of the band, but nothing with Perry, with whom Tyler has written dozens of monster hits like Walk This Way.
Perry, as you are so aware by now, has been estranged from his longtime writing partner ever since Tyler took the American Idol gig without giving his bandmates a heads up.
And if that wasnt enough, Steven revealed in his new book, Does the Noise in My Head Bother You, that Joe became addicted to prescription drugs during his painful knee surgeries back in 2008. (Joe hasnt responded to the allegations.)
In fact, yesterday during a death march of Boston radio station visits to flog his new single, (It) Feels So Good, as well as his new autobiography, Tyler said Perry will have to get over it and get down to business of songwriting this summer.

That's pretty much rock bottom.
The last good album Aerosmith released? 35 years ago (Rocks).
The only thing I will say is that James should have won the whole thing. I will be watching the finale with family but now any one of the three can win and I don’t really mind. I do believe that Scotty will win though as the girls will probably split the votes.
Speaking for myself only...
Haley Reinhart is an ACQUIRED TASTE.
She flew under the radar for the first few weeks because shes so versatile, she does various genres, which marked her initially as an undefined artist.
Look at the others Scott and Lauren are country, James is Metal Rock, Jacob is the Luther Vandros type, Stephnao is Bruno Mars, Pia does Power Ballads and is compared to Celine. But What is Haley? She does Country, Rock, Blues, Jazz, etc. That’s why Randy, J-Lo and Jim Iovine have a hard time placing her as an artist...
Shes so versatile, its hard to pigeon hole her, which is EXACTLY the point of this competition the ability to span various musical niches.
So, after B-B-B Bennie and the Jets ( is that the right number of Bs?), Blue ( Dig that Yoddle ), Rolling in the Deep, Beautiful, House of the Rising Sun and I Who Have Nothing, and of course, the outstanding Scat music duet she did with Casey Abrams in the song Moanin . Im officially in the Haley Reinhart bandwagon.
She deserves to win (but my guess is she wont so you’re right, this is Scottie’s to lose).
However, if she were to make an album, it would be great listening.
Her genre is the jazzy, jazz rock. She ought to avoid the genre of Rihanna, Fergie, Beyonce and even J-Lo (its too crowded already).
The genre that would fit her to a T would be Adele and Esperanza Spaldings genre.
I look forward to her album regardless of her winning or losing.
Agreed. I do not watch American Idol and only clicked on it to read about Aerosmith. I do not understand why people click on links and put "who cares?" or "yawn". If you are not interested in the topic why waste your time responding?
Interesting article by the way.

Joe Perry from 2008: We pretty much stay out of it (politics), but seeing so many people come out for Obama, I just felt like What the hell, I might as well raise my hand for this side (McCain). Ive been a hardcore Republican my whole life. My mother and father drilled into me from the very start that if you work hard and be positive, youll get what youre working for. I guess Im living proof of that.
Well it would be a great promotional opportunity. It would be fun to see James perform with them.
In their prime ('74 - '76) they were better than average (in the studio), but certainly not a Hall of Fame quality band. You're right -- they appeared on the scene at the perfect time (for them).
LOL! Looking at your list I'd say you think rock has been at an ebb since 1965.
I knew trhere was a reason I have always liked Aerosmith, although I liked the 70’s incarnation more than the 80’s/90’s one.
Too bad. I was looking forward to it. It could have only helped perry sell albums in the future ( or the next day). Stupid decision. Tyler is the smart one.
There won’t be 2 girls in the final if Scotty is in the final.
So, there won’t be vote splitting in the final.
The likely outcome is that one of the 2 girls goes next, and it’s Scotty vs. one girl in the finals.
Personally, I love Honkin’ on Bobo. It’s one of those albums I listen to at least once or twice a week in my mix.
Haley is an acquired taste much like poi or breast milk cheese.
She has a beautiful voice when she isn’t yelling, which means only for the first 20 second of each song. She never believes her lyrics; she overacts them, smiling all the way. She’s not very genuine and she doesn’t put herself out there. She focuses on her cute body rather than displaying her talents and “heart” to their best.
Toys In The Attic has always been my all-time favorite Aerosmith album. They were incredible back then.
