The last good album Aerosmith released? 35 years ago (Rocks).
Correct, and they weren't even that good then. In the 60's or even early 70's they never would have made it. They only became popular at a time when rock was at a very low Ebb. They were never a super group like the Beatles, Stones, ect. and they weren't even an influential group like the Yardbirds or the Byrds. They have no tunes of lasting value like these other groups. In short, they were one of the most overrated groups in rock history. If I've offended some Aerosmith fans, good you need to be offended.

I saw them in '77 or '78 at the L.A. Forum, and it was one of the worst concerts I've ever attended. Too drunk to play, in all likelihood. Thankfully it was also one of the
shortest shows ever -- they left the stage after only an hour. But their fans were pretty peeved about that.
In their prime ('74 - '76) they were better than average (in the studio), but certainly not a Hall of Fame quality band. You're right -- they appeared on the scene at the perfect time (for them).

Toys In The Attic has always been my all-time favorite Aerosmith album. They were incredible back then.
