President 'slept on it' as tense military chiefs awaited decision Action started the next morning when Obama declared 'it's a go' Mission delayed by one day after heavy cloud cover on Saturday night Navy seals dodged Pakistani security to reach Bin Laden's lair Outpouring of emotion on streets down to 'the same sense of unity that prevailed on 9/11' Obama told members of Congress
Barack Obama kept military commanders hanging by declaring he would 'sleep on it' before taking 16 hours to give the go-ahead to raid Bin Laden's compound.
Hit squads of specialist Navy Seals - who were not even told who they were preparing to capture - had practised the mission at two reconstructions of the terror chiefs sprawling compound. The mission looked set to be given the all clear last Thursday when analysts confirmed beyond doubt that Bin Laden was in busy town of Abbottabad in northern Pakistan.
But the president stunned officials when he told a national security meeting that he wanted more time to think - and disappeared out of the room. 'I'm not going to tell you what my decision is now - I'm going to go back and think about it some more,' said Obama, according to the New York Times. He then added 'I'm going to make a decision soon.' The head of the CIA and other senior intelligence officers who were keen to proceed were left tense as they waited for the president's decision. But the next morning after 16 hours, Obama summoned four top aides to the White House Diplomatic Room. Before they could speak, the president put his fist on the table and declared 'It's a go'.
With those three words, the greatest military operation in recent history began. Had it not been for heavy cloud cover

Bush would have said git er done on the spot—
Bush didn’t have to recover from hangovers.
>>They all have the same author that is forbidden on FR.<<
Two things: First, Do you know why he is forbidden?
Second, does this mean that although we are reading corroborating stories from several different sources, they are actually all getting their information from the same source (and who would that single source be)?
Obama notwithstanding, but if any of this from Uman is true, Clinton, Panetta, and Daley should be arrested, as well as any compliant JCS member or staff. We can’t having coups or the appearances of such in the United States.
There are two simple rules to remember when it comes to the press.
1. They are told what questions they may ask.
2. They are told what answers they may give.
Now, back to your point. Obama was overruled? Man, I hope that’s true!
“We cant having coups or the appearances of such in the United States.”

But with the Obama White House, I’m sure we could make an exception.
Really. Seriously.
My only question is whether he waited 16 hours to decide whether to go after bin Laden at all (inexcusable), or whether he waited 16 hours to decide how to go after bin Laden (through a drone strike, ground assault, etc.) (still tough to excuse, but perhaps not ‘inexcusable’).
In the end, though, I don’t think it mattered much. It sounds like the reason they didn’t go until Sunday was weather-related, so I don’t think it made much of a difference that 0bama gave the order on Saturday morning as opposed to Friday night.
Ummmm... Not any more!
What Rumsfeld said: This administration would have taken forever to make up their minds about the particulars and then eventually reversed themselves.
My opinion we didnt take bin laden alive is because of obama/holder wanting trials in new york rather than military in gitmo. Check the ulsterman reports, Panetta ran this operation, and they were not going to take him alive and have holder doing a new york trial. The military ops now are “take no prisoners”.
I confess that although I am getting those out, I don’t know if they hold water. I like the phrase, “extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence”. We’ll see if this has legs, or if it is a bunch of BS. Thanks to the internet, if it is NOT BS, it will have legs. It is a bit harder to hide than a birth certificate. It is also fresher.
Yea, wonder what Obama’s motives were? The good of the country? Or the good of his campaign? He would have been done, if this ever got out that he had Osama in his sights and did nothing.
Oh. And by the way. I did read post 22. Before it got deleted.
And; the link in post 52? That FR thread? Gone to zot city also.
Man! When these mods set their mind to zotting un-FRiendly sites - they get down and dirty.
lol
The photo where they are watching the real time event unfold immediately struck me as very odd. Why was Obama sitting in the back, in a low chair? Why is he not in a better position? He looks like they decided to let him have a chair at the last moment.
From all indications, Ulsterman is a creation of the blogger Anthony Martin, who had a flameout on FR and is now bloggera non grata on FR.
What makes you think we didn't?
that's up to the owner of the press.
...he had to wait for all the chips to come in. He had to debate the death of one of his brethren, his sagging polls, his Christian image, AND global backlash. Islamic rage. He had to make deals to minimize the backlash... for now , as it was only one passing chip on his road to the cakiphate.
Where is the rage?

CIA Dir Leon Panetta says the Govt “always assumed from the beginning” that Osama bin-Laden would be killed in the US raid on his compound
Thanks for the heads up, A M. I knew he was radioactive for some reason.
