Vanity: Why is FR shilling for Donald Trump? I thought this was a conservative site?

Someone please explain. Name me one conservative principle he stands for and has stood for through the years. I get that people like seeing him slap around Obama and push the birther issue. But why make excuses for the fact that he's moderate to liberal? He's given lots of money to Democrats, called George Bush evil and said Nancy Pelosi should have impeached him. He's advocated for universal healthcare and supported a wealth tax. He's trashed Paul Ryan's budget and thinks slapping a tariff on China will solve our entitlement problems.

The guy is not a conservative. Why are so many on Free Republic shilling for him? Where was Trump during the 2010 election? Which tea party candidates did he support? The answer is zip zero nada. He gave money to Harry Reid not Sharron Angle. He gave money to Charlie Crist not Marco Rubio. But now the narrative is he's a tea party conservative bucking the Republican establishment? Oh please pass me a bucket. Do people not believe that a solid conservative can beat Obama? Do people here believe we need to run a moderate to beat Obama? Didn't we try that two years ago with John McCain? Aren't we trying to avoid that this year by not supporting Romney? Can anyone really say that Trump is more conservative than Romney?

Oh and before anyone asks who do YOU support, I love Michele Bachmann and Herman Cain. And I hope Paul Ryan changes his mind and decides to run. Also if Alan West or Marco Rubio decided to get in the game I could support either one of them too.

Unless the Republicans in the House attach a complete Obamacare repeal to the debt ceiling and stick by it to the very end, they are finished...

I’ve pinged JR to several of these goofy “I heart Trump” threads the last couple of weeks, pleading for sanity....apparently he’s content to just let ‘em rip.

Talk won’t do it anymore.

Results or death.

It is that serious.

I see James Carville has now proclaimed Trump the GOP presidential frontrunner. This is the new leftwing/MSM meme. I sincerely hope this isn’t 2008 all over again. Because if it is then we’re screwed.

What I see, for what it's worth, is a huge stream of "I wouldn't vote for him but I'll scream HOORAY for as long as he's ripping zer0 a new one."

Now, this is different from touting Trump as a true conservative.

For instance, as I've said, I think the Donald is a shill for Hillary but I champion him as a foil to 0bama. That is NOT an inconsistent nor an anti-conservative position.

Are you confusing or conflating these two positions?

I wonder what will happen here once Trump gets in? IMO, the only thing that could keep him out is taxis tax returns would show that he is not worth as much as he says he is.

In all seriousness, I wouldn’t worry about it. Trump has just taken the circus sideshow of Presidential politics to its logical conclusion and is using it as a promotional tool for his brand and his TV show. I guarantee he has no intention of actually running, and will pull the plug shortly.

As for why some would support him...he’s anti-Obama. Reason enough for most.

RE :” I think it’s very unfair that those who question Trump’s conservatism are branded GOP establishment or worse Obama supporters.

That doesnt bother me, it's too easy to refute Trump with links to his previous liberal positions and I enjoy doing it. Then you got his idiotic claims about what he says he would do as POTUS. That is just easy game.

RE “I saw a post on the American Thinker website that lumped Trump in with the tea party. When did Donald Trump ever support the tea party?

Not long ago I joked that we got Republicans(and a few freepers here) that would support Mao Zedong if he cried Kenyan.

I cant imagine Trump the nominee, in fact I doubt he will really run(I think NBC renewed it's contract with him.). I think part of this is that it is sinking in that Palin probably wont run this time(which I always figured) , and those looking for a single 'hero' to beat up Obama in the press will go for anything right now. Palin looks pretty good compared to Trump. She was in WI recently. Where was Trump?

Well maybe if a Conservative decides to get in the race we wouldn’t need to have this discussion.

Donald Trump? I don’t care what he is. He is the only one with the cajones to say and do something. If more Conservatives open their mouth, maybe we wouldn’t be in this situation.

"Real conservatives were beating up on Obama long before Donald Trump came on the scene."

The reason you are confused as to why people would support Trump is because you really think that the GOP has been beating up on 0bama.

Trump is a leader, something the current field of "conservatives" have not been able to display.

You need to take the wad out of your panties, let things play out, see if Trump actually runs and wins some primaries before you start to spew your crap.

BTW my choice for 2012 would be Trump/West, but I would vote for anyone other than 0bama.

I agree with your questions. when the SCOTUS ruled eminent Domain could be usurped for PRIVATE business, they followed Trump.

He doesn’t believe in the protections of ED for the average American.

He is anything But conservative, trading one arrogant leftist for an arrogant RINO is NOT the answer.

Real conservatives were beating up on Obama long before Donald Trump came on the scene.---Name ten real quick.

Being conservative is not the only test of a candidate. Electability is of primary importance, but that fact escapes many conservatives who think of themselves as purists.

If Trump is the nominee, you'll vote for Ron Paul just to make your point---real smart.

Trump has figured out that he can hijack the birther portion of the Tea Party. This could cause real problems in the primary season next year, and if Trump misses getting the nomination and runs as an independant it could siphon off enough votes to really screw things up.

I've actually been wondering if Trump isn't doing this just to make sure zero gets reelected.

Operation Chaos worked out real well didn’t it? I’ve seen some suggestions out there that Trump is Obama’s version of OC.

I didn’t say GOP I said conservative, of which Donald Trump is not one. Where wad Trump ripping Obama a new one 2-3 years ago? Where was he when Hannity and Fox News were exposing Jeremiah Wright and Bill Ayers?

Way ahead of you... I am very aware and informed... europe is failing in front of our eyes and a real Conservative will fight to do all that you have listed... otherwise he or she would not be a real Conservative.

"I didn’t say GOP I said conservative, of which Donald Trump is not one."

Which Conservative running for the 2012 presidential election forced 0bama to do something he had paid millions of his own dollars not to do?

Queue the chirping crickets.

Leadership trumps do nothing conservatives that stand on the sideline and hinder the process of dismantling the pretender in office every time.

BTW I am a Conservative Independent.
