...Antarctic clams, snails and brittle stars, because of adaptation to their environment, have soft shells and have never had to fight shell-crushing predators. You can take an Antarctic clam and crush it with your hands, McClintock said. They could be the main prey for these crabs, he said.
Loss of unique mollusks could jeopardize organisms with disease-fighting compounds, McClintock said. Sea squirts, for example, produce an agent that fights skin cancer. If the crabs eat them, it could bring McClintocks research with that organism to a halt...

Yet another example of survival of the fittest. Who are we humans to interfere with that?

Who are we humans to interfere with that? I, for one, think we have a duty to the environment to interfere with the King crab invasion. Move them out of Antarctica--and onto my dinner plate.

We ran transects up the slope and discovered hundreds and hundreds of king crabs, which could translate into millions across broad expanses of coastal Antarctica, he said. They are adults, males and females. They appear healthy and have all the ingredients needed to produce a healthy population. Mayhaps the article details whether these are different than Alaskan King Crabs (and I somehow missed it) but if NOT, this is hardly a problem but a huge benefit, considering what those little buggers (and one of my all time favorite foods, which I can afford only occasionally) costs.
Naturally, I didn't miss whereby (like every other ill in the world) this is blamed on GORE-BULL WARMING and eeevil tourist, i.e. "HUMANS!".
My only surprise is that they didn't blame this on Bush!

Utter and complete geology FAIL.
The earth has warmed until it was devoid of ice entirely several times in the geological record.
There is nothing new under the sun.

This article looks like a contest to see how many times the word “could” can be used.
