” Id like to buy you a Bin Laden: two shots and a splash!”
Omg, that is hysterical!
Went to high school with Joan Jett. She was already with the runaways then.
Ok, got through the whole thread and you all were above average humorous tonight! I definitely had to LOL and repeat comments from here!
My take on tonight:
James - near perfect, with his performance and emotions. I know it was not fake. People with aspergers do wear their emotions close to their sleeves and cannot help it. I love him as an artist and a sweet person. He will win AI. He deserves to. He will also be a successful performer.
Jacob - great voice but too much emphasis on the high screeching. I don’t think Randy was fair to him - why should he stick to one style when they praise so me contestants for versatility? Jacob remains very hard to watch, and one wonders what inspired him to wail about how “love hurts.”
Scotty - an excellent night for him. He had fun and was natural bopping all over the stage in the first song. And “you were always on my mind” is such a beautiful, sad, song, and at only 17 he really seemed to feel it. I love that song and his version was better than Willie Nelson’s - to me. He is definitely the closest in talent to James and should be in the finale with him.
Lauren - loved her first song. She felt confident and she brought the power to the notes. She totally screwed up unchained melody. She cheated and made it easy and didn’t go for any of the high notes. I didn’t want to hear a 16 year old longing for anyone’s touch, and she didn’t seem to have her same confidence. Weak. I was sad she didn’t pick something else.
Haley - my prediction for going home. The first song was Meh, I don’t even remember it, except that Iovine made her sing it - oh yeah, the un recorded gaga song: if gaga liked it, she would have recorded it. But the absolute worst performance of the night was Randy’s “best of the night” — house of the rising sun by Haley. Ugh!!!!!! She first didn’t change the lyric to “many a poor girl,” which would have made more sense - instead of being involved with hookers, inhere version she could have been brought to moral ruin by being a hooker. Instead, she is dressed like a sexy girl but singing as a Boy? And the lyrics are deep and dark. Her life is a failure, a ruin — but Haley just keeps on smiling hugely. She is so very phony and she growled way too much. She is becoming a “performer” and never getting into her songs. Someone said a female Paul, and I agree - she may even share his dentist. She was less “connected” than Jacob and so she might go home before he does.
Thanks for that. I rolled the thought around all night and concluded the version I remember best was by the Kingston Trio. That would be my salad high school days. I have a good but very conservative friend who was and still might be a Joan clone
Following your lead I looked this morning but couldn’t find the Kingston Trio music so we could listen to what in my mind is the definitive version.
Joan sang it in the first person, Haley sang it in third person. I thought she could have made it very personal and more Idolish in first person recounting her own woe
” Maybe she did it for the toilet paper...did anyone check her bag when she was leaving??? “
It would have to be a very small one, as you may recall she advocted using 1 sheet.
” My take on tonight”
Nice review Yaelle.
Agree on your assessments especially Haley. I try to find those a cappella moments to hear the true quality of the voice, and to me Haley really falls down there.
James , in contrast shines.
Scotty very good for his genre in those moments.
Still not varied enough in his selections to show overall artistry, but if he wins I’ll be better with that than the last several years results.
Final 3 : James, Scotty, Lauren
Thanks for the link..never knew that..
Possibly double elimination on FOX tonight:
First, Jacob goes home on AI, then after the debate, all of Gary Johnson's potential donors tell him to fuggedaboudid..
Lauren looks good, she's continuing to work out..drop the weight, tone her body. Good for her..I think that every pound she dropped, Jacob's packed on..
First time I ever bought ANYTHING Idol, just bought Haley’s “House of the Rising Sun”.
Come on! The 13 year old chick vote rules this show.
I was tryig to think what song I wanted her to sing...”Rising Sun”..was a good choice..but I’d like to hear her do Dusty Springfield’s “You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me.” Her voice is perfect for that song, and like Dusty, she’s an itty-bitty sexy thing..
Well, Haley is pretty and she definitely has a powerful voice. When she’s not at the top of her lungs ( ie the first 30 secs of each song) she has a unique tone.
But she is blowing her opportunity to be real. She doesn’t believe her songs. She smiles and vamps. She is sexy. She’s got that going for her. But she doesn’t make the most of her songs. And she gets too intense for so long. I’d love to see her reach intensity and then bring her voice back to that unusual tone she has.
I think the judges were onto her weaknesses after the first song, but then they went nuts for her after the new Orleans song. She ruined the dark warning of that amazing song, but they worshipped her.
My thoughts from last night:
James - He was off. But its his first off night so he gets a pass.
Jacob - Go home! Please go home, you blubbering baby
Haley - I just like looking at you. You sing good too, but not as good as Lauren.
Scotty - Meh
Lauren - Good night for her. Looks, voice, the whole package. She and James should be in the final
Judges - Once again they sucked.
I think Haley, Scotty and James are safe.
Then again, I thought Pia Toscano was going to win the whole thing.
That was brilliant, jonny!!
Thank you so much, hahahahahaha.
I think so, too. The kid has an awesome voice but he hasn't brought anything new or astounding for a few weeks now. His name is out there, he'll get a deal, he's ready to go.
I loved Haley’s first number.
And the Haley haters must have really loved J-Lo’s bitch fest. Oooooh, Jenny is jealous!!
Btw, I think Ryan has a thing for Haley.
Yay!!! You and me have to huddle together as the only two Haley fans here, LOL. The blues are Haley’s thing and would love to see/hear her do some Bonnie Raitt covers. Haley can wail!!
I missed James’s second song and glad of it.
His opener was a gas, and I liked him happy much better than sad.
Tears and (uncontrolled) emotion in a performance simply turn me off.
