Seriously...Since Donald Trump has been on the birther crusade for well over a week, and arguing with the likes of Whoopie Goldberg on the View about it and displaying his birth certificate as a challenge to President Obama on the issue ... providing a copy of his birth certificate to the conservative website Newsmax, I have seen very little if any heavily critical stories about Trump raising the issue...maybe a few snarky remarks, but no mocking him as a total nut or loony, no hit-pieces trashing of him! maybe I might be missing it but I haven't seen it
If anybody else had done and said the same things as him, they would be immediately denounced by many in the MSM or some Congressman - but for him its a no.
If Sarah or for that fact any other major potential candidate were to do the same thing that Trump is doing for a week, they would be attacked...just like when Bachmann or others either made a comment, a joke or or made a slip up statement on the issue.
Maybe the media doesn't see him as a threat?
Donald Trump belongs in the minds of Americans as very respectable and trustworthy. As much as any other man.
Do you want her to win or not? She’s not viable by herself. She either needs a strong candidate to take the lead or she needs to deepen her record. Alaska is not a major state, like California, Texas, or the North England states. Being governor of Alaska is like being the mayor of Los Angeles or Chicago. I would not advise the mayor of either city to run for president, regardless of the flawless record they might have.
My advice would to to move forward and upward, but not to take such a leap forward. If they did a sterling job in Congress that they became more than a junior senator, it would work.
Excellent analysis. One comment:
“Also, Trump fights back.”
May I add he’s a billionaire who fights back? After all, leftscum are cowards at heart. Trump and his wealth=power intimidate them.
It’s also because the media is uncertain about what Trump really has or knows and he’s holding his cards close to his chest.
The media is waiting for Trump to show his hand so they know if they can discount it.
Excellent observation. I think you just nailed the popular appeal of Donald Trump in this presidential race.
I agree with the assessment, and I think that it tells a whole helluva lot more about the state, worries, and desires of American people than it does about Trump.
Rotflmao.
You are so right! Do you think he could work it bald? Hey it works for patrick stewart! Meow.
Just trying to help. 8)
Well, since you're not from here, I'll give you a tip. Americans, for the most part, prefer to promote people to the presidency who've got some sort of executive track record in government.
Normally that means state governor.
Obama was a legislator, not an executive. A popular, well-liked, and admired Democrat governor would have likely beaten him in the primary. New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson didn't come close to making that grade.
Legislators don't make good presidents. Nearly all of our presidents who came from the ranks of Congress have been total disasters for the country. A president, by the very nature of the job, has to be able to run a large organization. He is, after all, the Chief Executive of the nation. Governors have to do the same thing, just on a smaller scale, but this is why they're much better suited to taking the task.
Sarah Palin has that executive experience, which is one reason that she's always ahead of Obama on current events. Her reaction time is quicker, because she's been the boss, and unlike Obama, doesn't have to learn on the job (which he appears to be failing miserably at).
Not only that, Sarah's executive experience didn't start in the Alaska Governor's mansion (where she was very successful, by the way). It goes all the way back to her college days. She's been in charge of people and organizations for nearly her whole adult life.
I don't know what country you're in, but if you're accustomed to a parliamentary-style government, then I can see why you'd expect a president to have a legislative background. The American system is different, in that regard. Although there's no real requirement for our presidents to have honest executive experience, it's much desired by the people for their president to have prior experience at governing.
And she has learned much. I’m not discounting her, I’m just seeing it from the perspective of how I think Americans view her overall.
The old Clinton strategy: ignore the story and it will go away. The MSM doing the One another favor.
Ding Ding Ding!
Wow! Amazing how 95% of conservatives I know can't see what the democrats and the media are setting up here. The Obama birth certificate came right out of the blue.
Next up are controversial comments on gay marriage, abortion, immigration, etc. which the media will be sure to report but strangely, will not be the least upset about.
Sorry Jonty, but you're falling prey to the MSM's sway. They beat the hypno-drum day and night, that Palin is "unelectable", that she's "lost popularity", that she's "controversial", ad infinitum...
It's manipulation of public opinion, nothing more. The truth is that she remains extremely popular among center-right voters.
Little prediction....when she finally declares her intention to run, it'll be the biggest story of the year, and will push nearly everything else off the front page for weeks.
Wow great post
The leadership skill required to run Alaska is no different to running California or Texas. You make the mistake of assuming simply because a state have more people that somehow it make California or Texas governor special. Ignoring their politics for a sec, but your argument suggest someone like Steve Jobs or Bill Gates in your mind is not qualified to be president, because the ppl they manage are tiny. In fact if you look at previous president, how many of them were governor’s of large states? What I see here is double standard. You’re putting Palin on a bar so high that makes her unqualified yet lower the bar for everyone else. In fact, no gop nominee from ron paul, hermain cain, romney or huckabee would qualify
Maybe they won’t say anything because Trump owns the buildings they operate out of.
Just sayin...
You must not be paying attention or have not paid any mind to Palin’s accomplishments. She is as solid as they come and the longer she is in the public eye, the stronger she becomes.
She’s meeting with overseas leaders and will continue to build on that foundation.
Btw...in your first post you mentioned she should have run or served in congress before running for VP. I don’t know where you are from but candidates don’t volunteer or just throw their hats in the ring. The presidential candidate chooses the running mate. Furthermore had she not been on the ticket, there is no question in my mind that the loss to McCain would have been comparable to Reagan’s landslide victories.
I’ve been thinking about this.
1. Maybe, just Maybe, Trump is doing something the libs want done. Trump is friends with the Clintons. He is NOT a conservative. He’s just a down to earth businessman.
Hillary is waiting to make her movie. She needs someone else to “break the ice” - someone credible (remember, as far as the MSM is concerned conservatives are not credible) to really start raising doubt. The Dem party was split in two over Obama. The Kennedys came out and threw their weight behind him, and for the first time the MSM went after the Clintons. This may be part of that.
2. Trump has real money and is involved in many businesses, including media. Reople really don’t want to piss him off. They just may pay for it.
3. There is some pure entertainment value. Pass the popcorn. Obama is now damaged goods. They aren’t so wedded to his survival that they’ll miss a good show.
4. And the biggie... MAYBE, just maybe, some Dems are starting to find out this smoke has a fire behind it. Up until now they’ve been making fun. But just say, for a moment, its starting to leak out - there REALLY IS no BC, and there ARE real problems with BO’s past. There may be hell to pay.
I wonder how many higher up dems are thinking, “OMG, I never dreamed this could be true - Could he REALLY have been born in Kenya - I better CYA...”
“Birth certificate” has been in the top five google searches the past few days. It’s number three right now. Trump is making waves.
I think you are exactly correct.
I also think this is, behind the scenes, the beginning of a war between Soros and The Don. Soros doesn’t stand a chance.
>> all Obama has to do is ta da release a forged BC
There’s no acceptable “ta da” after years of obfuscating. “Why so deceitful?” will be the first question.
