The joke that's going around is that the Mayans got it wrong: The world is ending this year, not 2012.

Here's the lates sign of that.

A superbug is spreading around America, and has hit Southern California.

LA Times:

A dangerous drug-resistant bacterium has spread to patients in Southern California, according to a study by Los Angeles County public health officials.

More than 350 cases of the Carbapenem-Resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae, or CRKP, have been reported at healthcare facilities in Los Angeles County, mostly among elderly patients at skilled-nursing and long-term care facilities, according to a study by Dr. Dawn Terashita, an epidemiologist with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

It was not clear from the study how many of the infections proved fatal, but other studies in the U.S. and Israel have shown that about 40% of patients with the infection die. Tereshita was not available for comment Thursday morning but was scheduled to speak about the study in the afternoon.

Please...now it's all CG.

People are too lazy to think about movie plots, and get into characters.

All Hollyweird throws up there on the screen are bombs and creatures..

I’ve had something that has given me a persistent cough and plugged up sinuses for about ten days now.

Exercise and Vitamin C seem to be doing the trick, but it’s not super-fun.

It took out my family. I’m a very healthy guy in my mid-30’s and I got a flu shot. I had it for 3 weeks, started as flu symptoms then moved to my chest like bronchitis and ended with puking my brains out.

My 3 month old son got sick too. Needless to say it was a very scary time for us.

Thankfully, we survived.

Technically it’s killing 40% of those INFECTED, there’s no way to track how many people came in contact but didn’t get infected. And heck there’s even the possibility of people infected but not showing enough symptoms for anybody to know they were infected.

Remember the swine flu, and the bird flu, and SARS. Most of these things aren’t nearly as scary as the CDC wants us to fund.

Disease, Disease
Spreading the disease
With some help from Captain Trips
He’ll bring the world down to his knees
Power, yes Power
He’ll show them all his power
It pulses through his ice cold blood
A whole world to devour

He’s seeing, He’s calling
His legacy, He’s spawning
He’s coming, corrupting
Among the living

I am the walkin’ dude
I can see all the world
Twist your minds with fear
I’m the man with power
Among the living
Follow me or die

We’ve got a bug like that down here (FL). My 14 year old was sick for almost 4 weeks - it took 3 rounds of antibiotics to fix him up.

Now I’ve got it; I’ve been sick for a week and a half. The coughing fits would double me over. For a week I was so tired I had to sit down and rest after just walking across the house. Now I’m on antibiotics. I’m doing quite a bit better since I started the antibiotics, but I’m not well. I just hope this course of antibiotics gets rid of it.

I am hearing about a lot of bronchitis and pneumonia in our community, too. One of the kids at my son’s school was hospitalized for over 10 days. My kids’ pediatrician said it has been a very bad year for flus and other respiratory illnesses - he has been seeing a lot of sick kids.

For some reason that map resembles the H1N1 pandemic map that was going to decimate the United States if people didn't get their shots............

This is only one of dozens of articles linking Vitamin D deficiency with influenza.

Thought strictly anecdotal, I started taking a vitamin D3 about a 18 months ago, I have not been sick even once, not even a sniffle.

We were all kncoked out by the same thing here in our office. We’re usually pretty good at not getting each other sick, but w/in a couple of days, we ALL had it.

Sucker took forever to leave....we still have coughs as well.

Just to be clear - I’m not in “OMG, Captain Trips is REAL!” camp. But there does seem to be a nasty bronchitis-causing illness circulating this season, and it is slow to respond to antibiotics. Given how sick it made me and my 14-year old, I could definitely see this illness causing a lot of fatalities among the elderly and other patients with weak immune systems.

For that reason, I’m talking to Mom by phone until I’m sure I’m not contagious any more.

It took 6 weeks and two rounds of antibiotics to get rid of it,

Sorry to correct you but it took 6 weeks for your body to rid itself of the virus and the additional cost of visiting a doctor who gave you two useless antibiotics which have no affect on viruses whatsoever......The least you can do is give your own body the credit it deserves.

You're a GP's best friend........

“Cough will not go away..”

We went through something similar about two months ago. The kids had it only a few days but my husband and I had it for at least 3 weeks. The tiredness was horrible and coughing caused your ribs to actually ache. Feel better soon.
