I was listening to 630 WMAL on my car radio this evening on my way back home from DC, and the top-of-the-hour newsguy (Mark Weaver, I think) was talking about the horrific scene at the Lululemon Athletica store, where a 27-year-old employee, Brittany Norwood, killed a 30-year-old employee, Jayna Murray, on March 11, 2011.
Ms. Murray had discovered that Ms. Norwood had stolen items from the store. Detectives from the Montgomery Co. Police Dept. have said that it's one of the most horrible and gruesome crime scenes that they've EVER seen, and Ms. Norwood said that they had both been sexually assaulted and attacked by two masked men who then killed Jayna, but spared Brittany's life somehow.
AS I WAS LISTENING TO THE RADIO REPORT, I STARTED THINKING THE FOLLOWING: Is this a 'Hate Crime'? Norwood is black, and the dead woman, Murray, is white. If this had happened the other way around -- if Murray (white woman) had brutally killed Norwood (black woman) and then cunningly lied about it for a week, would the Rev. Jesse Jackson and the Rev. Al Sharpton be up in arms coming to Bethesda with their big megaphones to say that this was a crime against a young African-American woman and that it should be considered a Hate Crime?
So far, I've heard NOTHING from the local media about these scenarios.
That said I have to believe this woman is a psychopath. Could have happened anywhere. I'd like to see her affirmative action accomplishments.
No, downtown Bethesda. Pretty much a modern day Norman Rockwell painting of “main street” with high-end boutiques mixing with high-end boutiques and the occasional cupcake shop with lines out to the sidewalk.
Obviously it is, but since the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice has established the policy that no civil rights crime with a white victim will be prosecuted, it isn’t......
Peopled by Government types. Sucks.
Silvie, I wouldn’t assume it was a hate crime. By definition, “hate crime” means that Norwood killed Murray because Murray was white. In this case, Norwood killed Murray because she didn’t want Murray to put her in jail for theft. Norwood probably would have killed Murray no matter what color either of them was, just to cover up the crime. Stupid, evil woman.
Yes, the way Murray’s body was brutalized, this appears to be a crime of passion.
Bethesda Row (Wisconsin Avenue)
Here’s what Mont.Co. authorities have said about Brittney:
“Her cunning and her ability to lie is almost unparalleled,” McCarthy said of Norwood.
SCARY....
oh, I am SURE she lies like a rug, with no qualms whatsoever. If she can kill off her co-worker in cold blood, what’s a few lies?
The problem for Britney is she’s a STUPID liar. If you’re going to lie, you really have to fabricate a credible story; she didn’t. Dumb b!tch.
So pleased w/Montgomery County PD. Too bad MD doesn’t have the death penalty (or use it if they do have it) .... all those bleeding hearts you got over there. She could look forward to a serious frying if she had done this in VA.
And you have the right to carry in VA unlike here in Monkey County Merryland.
A right unafforded to Jayna. Her blood is on the state as far as I’m concerned.
Do you really think Jayna was the type to carry a concealed weapon, Clint? She seemed like the nature-loving, Bungee Jumping sports-oriented type.
I know what you’re trying to say regarding concealed weapons in VA vs. MD (I understand your bigger point), but Jayna herself didn’t seem like the type to carry one.
Trying to understand the story here. So have the police concluded (based on the statement about the perp being an extremely accomplished liar) that there was nobody else involved (i.e. the two masked men)?
Exactly. There we NO masked men.
This was all fabricated by Ms. Norwood, including using a size 14 shoe (used at the store to measure pant-size) in order to disperse all the blood from one side of the store to the other, so as to throw off police and lead them to believe that the masked men did it.
Did you hear that MoCo Police has a suspect for the 2 Olney murders of last week? News conference tonight, at 6:30 from MoCo hdqtrs.
News media has been calling these crimes ‘hate crimes’ since the two vistims are Muslim and Hindi.
Yes I did hear about them, first murders in Olney for a very long time. They think the suspect couldn’t tell a difference because they don’t look like him or he was a dumbass and thought they both were muslim? Since when does religion qualify for a hate crime? oops, what am I thinking? This is Monkey County Merryland.
You’re too funny with all this “Monkey Co., Merryland” stuff.
My mom arrived at BWI Airport recently, and I e-mailed her that I would pick her up at “Balmor, Merlin” for her flight from San Juan.
Imagine her confusion as she was trying to decipher what the hell “Balmor, Merlin” meant.
After a few exchanges I just broke down and wrote: IT’S ‘BALTIMORE, MARYLAND’ MOM!! IT’S A JOKE!!
Hahaha...
That’s not nice if your mom doesn’t speak english well ;o)
Norwood said that they had both been sexually assaulted and attacked by two masked men who then killed Jayna, but spared Brittany's life somehow... FYI: I just heard on NBC4 that the perp in the 2 Olney murders is a black man with a mental illness.
Thanks to zer0’s justice dept., a lot of “their people” think that they can literally get away with murder.
The perp is black, so she can’t be prosecuted.
