I was listening to 630 WMAL on my car radio this evening on my way back home from DC, and the top-of-the-hour newsguy (Mark Weaver, I think) was talking about the horrific scene at the Lululemon Athletica store, where a 27-year-old employee, Brittany Norwood, killed a 30-year-old employee, Jayna Murray, on March 11, 2011.
Ms. Murray had discovered that Ms. Norwood had stolen items from the store. Detectives from the Montgomery Co. Police Dept. have said that it's one of the most horrible and gruesome crime scenes that they've EVER seen, and Ms. Norwood said that they had both been sexually assaulted and attacked by two masked men who then killed Jayna, but spared Brittany's life somehow.
AS I WAS LISTENING TO THE RADIO REPORT, I STARTED THINKING THE FOLLOWING: Is this a 'Hate Crime'? Norwood is black, and the dead woman, Murray, is white. If this had happened the other way around -- if Murray (white woman) had brutally killed Norwood (black woman) and then cunningly lied about it for a week, would the Rev. Jesse Jackson and the Rev. Al Sharpton be up in arms coming to Bethesda with their big megaphones to say that this was a crime against a young African-American woman and that it should be considered a Hate Crime?
So far, I've heard NOTHING from the local media about these scenarios.
630 WMAL Ping List!
And you WON’T hear anything about it being a hate crime because the State Dept. has already declared that if you weren’t benefited by the 1964 Civil Rights Act, the hate crime laws don’t apply to you.
Why do you think Fred was let go?
I’m thinking a shared love interest. Brittany got “dissed” and paid some retribution.
Anyone else finding it hard to picture a brutal murderer named ‘Brittany’...?
Fred left WMAL for reasons involving his wife, who was muzzled when discussing issues relating to Radical Islam.
Cops said that the victim found stolen property from the store in Brittany’s purse. I don’t think this had to do at all with a ‘shared love interest’...
Almost all crimes are motivated by hate, aren’t they?
Unless she was targeted because of her race, I don’t see how it qualifies - but I think the perpetrators, including her co-worker should all get the death penalty after being proven guilty. But more information about it will be coming out in time, so maybe race will be shown to be a motivating factor in the brutality.
There's Lizzie Borden, Squeaky Fromme, and other women murderers with cutesy little names...
Bambi Bembenek, and a dishonorable mention to Angela Dorian/Victoria Vetri
Apparently Miss Murray caught Miss Norwood stealing merchandise and Miss Norwood killed her over it.
That’s just it—the murder is very personal. That’s why I think it’s more than just some stolen merch.
There are some comments regarding the murder on the Lululemon Athletica Web site.

Was this at Montgomery Mall?
Didn’t they do the same thing to Andy Parks?
I think this was a fear motivated crime. Jayna found out that Britney had stolen from the store. Britney apparently had some serious financial issues and probably was afraid of losing her job, not being able to get another, etc. so of course the logical thing was to kill the person who’d discovered her theft.
This gal Britney is totally stupid. The story she made up for the cops fell apart with basic questioning, it couldn’t possibly have held together. So many lives destroyed, Jayna, her family and friends. For what?
