Just as Japans earthquake raises fears of catastrophe from a nuclear meltdown and Mideast turmoil jeopardizes the worlds supply of conventional energy, along comes word of a possible scientific breakthrough that holds out the hope of cheap, abundant power. Cold fusion - discredited and vilified in the past - is back in the news. The potential benefits are great enough that, despite past failures, the technology deserves a fair hearing from the scientific community this time.

Rossi’s device hasn’t been verified. It has been observed by scientists and some are cautiously optimistic (Steven Krivit among them) but he’s a long way from having proven anything.
I believe the fair hearing was something like: “Prove it works. Can’t? Sorry!”
Fair hearing yes. But we can’t wait for fusion cold or hot. We need to be building nuclear plants now.
We need to drive down the cost of both electricity and vehicle fuel and get the economy going again.
If he has a patent, there’s nothing stopping him from showing it to the world.
Indeed, and that’s what Perley is saying here. If it’s real it won’t be too hard to prove.
We know now how open and enlightened and unbiased the scientific community/academia has been with respect to the global warming issue. They NEVER put anyone into Coventry or badmouth people who come up with hypotheses that differ from their conventional shared wisdom.
I have read some things from unbiased sources that make me think that our people ought to give the cold fusion technology a real shot. I think there might be something to it.
He doesn’t have a patent yet — his device is a trade secret and Rossi says it will stay that way until a patent is granted.
I’m also for what you said. bumping your post
1. Successful experiments are on a very small scale and cannot be consistently replicated.
2. There is no widely accepted theory of the actual mechanism of Cold Fusion.
And I could add a third: the Cold Fusion community cannot attract significant levels of venture capital.
I think if I had a true world saver I would give it to the world knowing my name would stand along side names like DaVinci, Marconi, Tesla, etc.
The world would beat a path to your door looking to hire you based on what you invented.
Question and answer session with Rossi

Has he filed a patent application or even a provisional patent application?
Yes, he has.
> If he has a patent, theres nothing stopping him from showing it to the world.
And if the patent is still in the pending state, he could be screwed. Also, what countries did he seek IP protection in? Every one requires a separate application and set of nationalization fees.
I hate that they are using the term cold fusion. Rossi isn’t calling this cold fusion. He calls it Low Energy Nuclear Reaction or LENR. Everybody is hesitant to use the fusion term because they aren’t sure exactly what is happening yet.
He has done some tests and is doing a number of the right things. He doesn’t seem to make claims he can’t back. So far, so good.
Two decades have now passed since the initial "results". By now, if there was anything there, I would expect that we would have something called "the cold fusion effect".
This would be a REPRODUCIBLE experiment that would CLEARLY and UNAMBIGUOUSLY indicate that some physical process was taking place which cannot be explained by anything other than cold fusion.
Virtually every great discovery in science has been preceded by experiments whose results could not be explained, followed by theories which suggest experiments which could support or falsify the theory.
Is there a "cold fusion effect"? Not that I am aware of.
Is there a falsifiable theory of cold fusion? Not that I am aware of.
Perhaps you can educate me. I was greatly interested when this topic first surfaced. I have seen nothing to renew that interest in twenty years.
Why not, "So far, so bad"?
What is being displayed does not constitute a peer-reviewed scientific discovery. It does not constitute an investment opportunity. It does not constitute announcement of a defendable patent granted.
Just what is the purpose of what you see happening?
