Has anyone ever though about this? A FReeper sell or trade area? I'd trust people here more than I would the paper or online auction sites.
Why are you even asking this question? Jim Robinson has made it perfectly clear Free Republic is not a democracy. He lets you post articles and comments (or not). Last time I checked he was not looking for input about how to run the website.
We discussed several ideas in a very long thread during the last FReepathon and Jim Robinson made it pretty clear that any kind of sales or soliciting or anything even approaching that would not be allowed on Free Republic. It would completely change the way it is structured legally and would greatly interfere with the fair use copyright policies that FR uses to allow the posting of articles and pictures from so many sources.
So, sorry to rain on your parade but I don’t think that this will get very far. I’ve pinged JimRob in case I’ve spoken out of turn. OK?
If people could buy/sell here, I doubt honesty would prevail for very long...all it takes to become a member is an email address.
Definitely more trouble than it’s worth.
You sell KKK robes?

I was not thinking of a competitive thing to ebay. Just an area for like minded people to buy - sell - trade. I would not mind making a donation to FR to post something.
It would be called “FRee-bay”, of course.
What would the legal ramifications of such a thing be?
I have no idea. Just thought I would ask.
Horrible idea that would lead to stalkers targeting specific freepers, or worse stalkers out to get any and every freeper they can find.
It wasn’t long ago freepers were being tracked by the Secret Service, FBI and other LEO clowns. Probably ungoing still, and I’m sure all FR traffic has IP traces running.
However, letting others set up traps in classified ads is a dangerous idea.
THe best suggestion would be for one of the FR entities that is a registered non-profit to set up associate links, such as an Amazon Associates link, so Freepers could go through a FR portal to do their online shopping with a small kickback to the FR nonprofit.
regards,
You may trust FReepers more than most groups, but remember, anyone can sign up. There is no vetting.
The “Adult Services” section would definately stune your beeber.
Grin.
A long standing principle has been "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" but there are always newbies with better ideas.
Or perhaps longstanding members who’d like FR to get out of the 1990’s

Hey, I was for Fred, too. At least we have that in common.
