Where are the Nuclear Agencies on this? We need official Press Conferences on this situation - NOW.

Posted on 03/12/2011 5:24:20 AM PST by Scythian

The collective Nuclear Industry is massively failing the people they have so long sought to protect. There is no real, reliable, trustworthy news being reported on the situation in Japan except for vague and conflicting reports.

Where is the World Nuclear Association?

Where is the International Atomic Energy Group?

Where is the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission?

There should be press conferences on the situation in Japan, the people of the world should know all of the facts on the ground in "real time" because of the nature of the danger we are dealing with.

I am in favor of Nuclear Energy but if this is the way nuclear disasters are going to playout, that is, the general populace in the dark about the real danger then I am dead set against Nuclear Energy. These Nuclear Agencies should be out front on this (at least one of them). There are people in Japan that know exactly what is happening and the Nuclear Agencies should be out front with the information right now, in a press conference.

This is an epic failure on their part, in the future I suggest they be prepared and out front.

I left this comment yesterday morning 10:23am Australian EST (about 15 hours ago), on another thread:

“Am watching the Australian foreign minister live on tv now, he said he was just told that anyone living within 10 kilometre radius of Fukushima plant is advised to & will be evacuated. There is high radiation leakage from the plant. And, the dam has also collapsed. I know there are many more Americans in Japan, but there are also approx. 11,000 registered Australians in Japan.”

We haven’t had further info in Australia about the situation in Japan as yet. I suspect the Japanese & others who are now helping them are trying to cope with a lot on their plate at the moment.

That Stratfor report has absolutely no sourcing. Which makes it highly suspect.

when the melting nucular core burns thru the floor and hits the water level, there will be a huge nucular steam explosion, turning all of NorthKorea into a wasteland.

And the ice will melt in siberia

I’m mostly concerned with the idiots who have decided that this is their chance to spread their pet conspiracy theories.

Stratfor reports LOL!

Yes, the authorities should do better. Stratfor and it’s ilk will sensationalize and frighten people to get attention. Like they always do.

A good link for news is the Japanese media.

for instance.

So were you the least bit concerned about a lack of sourcing on the Strafor report before you passed it along?

Gee, do you think they might be a little too busy to hold press conferences? You sound like you work for the Obama Administration for crying out loud.

Epic earthquake, 10’s of thousands missing and dead, 5 reactors in varying states of emergency and you want them to get in front of tv’s to tell you, who are living half a world away what is happening? Astonishing stupidity on your part my friend, you must be part of the younger generation who was not around during Three Mile Island or Chernobyl. I don’t recall the Russians telling us much of anything at all for days or even weeks. They did not even want to admit right away they had a major problem.

The people in the know are working 24/7 right now to try and contain the problem, figuring how to get pumps working, backup generators to the sitem seawater into the reactor, etc. By the time they come out to appease you, the situation might be completely changed and what they just told you no longer operative. Maybe they should be tweeting from the containment building?

Clueless...........

Your families health? How do you figure your families health is at risk? Did Chernobyl affect your families health? Man, we exploded two atomic bombs in Japan and tons more in Nevada and the South Pacific and the world is still around. Astonishing the hysteria of the uninformed.

Something like 1200 above ground nuclear explosions before they were ended.

What should they be doing???
Your post sounds like hysteria. People on the front lines are doing their jobs over there; and some probably are dying doing their jobs.

Have a bunch of government officials giving press conferences doesn’t do anything useful.

An 8.9 earthquake in a populated area is a disaster. Many people will die and a lot of stuff gets destroyed.
It’s a horrible thing, but a fact of life.
Same thing will happen when one cuts loose on the West Coast. 100 years ago no one lived there, now a lot of people do.
And we have play by play internet and media coverage of these events today. Not good for people prone to panicking.

There are still massive aftershocks and you want a meeting and a press conference?

That can wait.

Fault lines aren't the problem here ~ this was a MASSIVE movement of the tectonic plates ~ with an 8 foot displacement of the entire nation of Japan.

You do that anywhere stuff happens.

Now, with thorium reactors we don't have this problem.

Yep, I also don’t recall Rudy G having too many press conferences as the twin towers were burning. Pres Bush had a short statement he read from Barksdale AFB that night. In the midst of a crisis, the last thing to do is hold press conferences. Deal with the immediate problem, if you NEED to inform the public immediately in danger you obviously have that as first priority. What the rest of the world knows or thinks they need to know is irrelevant.

I agree that sourcing would be helpful; then it would be possible to look at the sources, something I often do. However, there is generally inadequate sourcing in most reports and, as noted, I have found STRATFOR reliable in other contexts.
