Did the Republican's make a mistake in Wisconsin?
My hubby | 3/9/2011 | MsLady

My hubby said he thinks the republican's screwed up in Wisconsin. He said he thought public opinion would turn against them now. He thought they should have just waited the democrats out and let them sweat it out in IL. Comments and keep in nice :) it's late and I don't feel like getting yelled at.

Hubby wasn’t saying what they did was wrong. He’s thinking the public will view it unfavorably. And that the better maneuver might have been to just wait out the dems.

This just shows the inferiority complex we’ve developed. When we do the right thing we think Mr Karma is going to bite us in the bee-hind. Poo to the democrats.

Ask your hubby why would tax paying citizens get angry at not paying higher taxes. Then ask him how this piece of legislation affects their lives at all. It doesn’t. A month after the legislation is signed tthey won’t care about it one way or the other for the most part. What they will care about is their property taxes will stop going straight up.

GOP must act decisively when they can, just as the CommieCrates have done. The difference is, GOP action will benefit voters, while CommieCrate programs are designed to make voter slaves to government!
If fear of possilbe public opinion is a factor in GOP decision making, then the GOP is lost, will lose it’s base, and will allow media bias to destroy them! JMHOI

The idiots in Wisconsin had already turned against the Republicans. By doing the right thing, the Republicans at least have a slight chance of getting their popularity back once the state starts coming back from the financial brink.

The Republicans in WI delivered on precisely what they ran on. The nation is going to have to decide whether it wants its leadership to do what it says or to keep handing out skittles. That is an absolute dividing line in the entire process and in the entire philosophy. There’s no doubt whatsoever that the skittles crowd is large and always will be large. It’s also clear that those most accustomed to skittles will squawk the loudest at the prospect of having them taken away. So there is nothing that is surprising about anything that has happened so far, except how petulantly childish the fugitive Dems have acted.

Have patience. Let this play out. If the US has indeed become a nation of mobs, then this is minimal in terms of how shocking it may seem at the present time. If that is what we’ve become, you and I ain’t seen nothing yet.

The mistake was not doing what they did sooner.

The Wisconsin Open Meetings Act requires 24 hours notice before a public meeting (including a legislative committee meeting), unless there is “good cause” to forego such notice, or unless it is impossible or impractical to provide such notice. Frankly, given how long this has gone on, I think it is difficult to argue that there was “good cause” to schedule this meeting with so little notice, or that it was impossible/impracticable to give notice beforehand. I really don’t know why they rushed it; they would have lost nothing by waiting until tomorrow for the committee meeting (or, alternatively, giving notice yesterday for today’s meeting).

This is a huge defeat for the Democrats one of the worst in 50 yrs. The biggest gripe conservatives have had about the Republicans is that after they get elected they allowed themselves to be cowed by the Democrat media and don’t do what they said they would do. Walker has made a successful attack on the principle prop of the Democrat Party, the union money tap. It will make it much easier in the future to have fair elections since the Democrats cannot just seize the dues of Union members as they have in the past.

Like there is anything state-run media is going to like that the GOP does?

It's time for the rubber to hit the road, or to surrender.

Those are the choices.

I’m not saying they did anything wrong. In fact I think they showed great restraint. But, how will the public overall see it?

The Public likes to see "issues resolved" a leader and a winner and in this case the Republicans WON and won looking like the adults, unlike how Democrats "won" with Obamacare.(see the difference)

If that is true and public opinion was already turning against Walker, then they had nothing to lose then.

By not doing what they did, the commie unions would have won and America would have lost. The people in Wisconsin now have a chance to see what the union thugs are really like as they destroy the capitol building. There is no place for unions in the public sector.

This is no longer a fight for poll numbers. The unions have seen to that. This is just a fight, and if they don’t back off somebody is going to get hurt, badly.

Wait until the unionized teachers no longer have their dues automatically deducted and have to write the checks for the dues.
